will A 2007 (TURBO) 5103 RUN A 8' SHREDDER WITH THREE GEAR BOXES??

THE SHREDDER BROCHURE STAYS 50 HP MINIMUM. I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING OUT IF I HAVE A50 HP OR A 46. IF IT IS A46 WOULD THIS HURT THE TRACTOR TO HAVE A BIG MOWER ON IT???

IT THE 3008 SHREDDER Bush Hog&reg - Performance You Can Count On

I HAVE A 100 ACRES TO CUT AND THE SHREDDER IS ALREADY THERE ON THE PROPERTY.

I used a JD 5300 (50 pto hp) with an 8', rhino rotary cutter. The mower was HD and looked just like the one in the bushhog link. I think your tractor is a good match with an 8', dual, spindle mower-unless the mowing is extreme. IMHO, a bigger tractor is just more difficult to manage in tight situations. I think my rhino was rated up to 100 hp. My 5300 was MFWD and had a loader. You will need either a loader or front end weights to optimally handle the weight of the mower. 46hp vs 50hp is not a significant difference and not really noticeable.

The negative is, an 8' cutter is going to take an extremely long time to mow 100 acres. For that much land, a 15' batwing is better and you don't have the hp for a 15'.

the model in question has three gear boxes on it. a fellow tractor owner said that the 8' mower would/could tear up the pto on my tractor??????

I think you are looking at gross hp specs, 5103 in 2007 was only 38 at the pto, previous versions where 43hp at the pto. As far as damaging the pto on you tractor that is very unlikely. You will however probably be disapointed in the perfromance of the cutter esp in heavier material and the cutter slows down. then you sit in one spot to wait for it to get back up to speed. Since the cutter is already there, give it a try and see if it performs the way it should. If you would like to know the which hp your tractor is post or email me your s/n and I will tell you.

Didn't realize the 5103 only had 38 pto hp. That maybe a bit marginal. What kind of mowing will it be doing? The physical size of the 5103 should be ok to handle it with FEL or weights.

Looks like tractordata.com lists it at 38 HP claimed and 46 HP tested. I would suspect if it is tall thick grass it is going to bog if going very fast.

I have this exact 3008 Bush Hog rotary cutter with a Kubota M8200 tractor. That is a monster cutter - weighs almost a ton but it cuts. I believe the M8200 is 82 engine hp - not sure of the pto hp. I've never seen the tractor bog down because of high thick grass or from going too fast. Instead of bogging, it does a lousy job cutting when going too fast. Just have to slow down at times. You know the cutter is being worked too hard when the mid gear box gets so hot the oil boils out the top relief valve.

I think your 5103 tractor can handle the cutter as long as you are heavy enough on the tractor front (ballast). Also, make sure the pto clutch on the cutter is adjusted properly to minimize possibility of damage to your tractor.

I agree with your statements. If the tractor actually tests at 48 pto hp, I think you will still be ok. Since the mower is already on the property, give it a try.

Thanks for the replies the mowing will be mostly through coastal hay about 2' high I am not sure how thick. I do have anew 6 footer if this does not pan out.

2' coastal is going to be very tough to cut especially when you are low on hp. I pull a MX8 3pt with my 5083e and used to pull it with a 2640. The 2640 is 79 hp pto, but too light on the front without weight. The mx8 weighs around 1700 lbs.
