I think I like the first photo of this tractor, it was the only good picture I took

I wish I had your tires. I pull a 4cy scraper pan with mine and some bigger rubber would help. That and a few more horses.

I wish I had Michelins! Instead of crappy GoodYears DuraCraps. Must be nice to have the 563 Loader with a cab too. :licking:

My 6415 came with 13.6-24s and 18.4-34s I would have prefered 12.4-24s and 18.4-30s

I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with one of my local JD dealers. He knows my operation and my uses. He agreed with my concern about the lack of transmission options on the 6D series tractors, especially with hay baling.

He believes the "Limited" series would work pretty well and would be quite affordable. He went on to say the "M" series has a lot more comfort features if I was willing to pay a little more, adding that either would work well in my situation.

He recommended not going below the 5085M or the 5083E. He thinks both would meet my hp needs now and in the future. He didn't think there was a significant weight difference between the two series.

He is working up some figures and we will meet sometime next week when I have more time. I will share with all when I know more.

Is anyone out there pulling a newer style baler with a 5085M? If so, how does it handle the baler.

MWRR

I am running a 5525 cab that is 91hp - 75PTO with a JD 467 baler - works fine.

I more I look at these 5Ms - I really "need" one of them. :)

Cleaning the coolers on my 5525 is a real chore. the 5M makes it look easy.

Zebrafive,

I am curious, why would you have preferred the smaller 12.4R24 / 18.4R30 tire combination, to the larger 13.6R24 / 18.4R34 tire combination that you have on your 6415?

Because at the time I was looking for a JD 5425 or 5525 and these tires make the 6415 look even bigger. Price of the 6415 was well below the 5425/5525s I'd been seeing.

Zebrafive,

Thank you for your reply. I am still curious though, beyond the difference in appearance (the larger tires making the tractor look larger) was there a substantive reason for wanting the smaller tires: lower center of gravity, barn door clearance, etc.? I ended up upgrading the tires on my 5085M from the 12.4R24 / 18.4R30 combo that came with it to 14.9R24 / 18.4R34. The idea is to have as large a footprint as possible for less rutting in the muddy fields. So far I have gotten almost no seat time because I had to wait for the loader to arrive to begin to actually use the tractor for late winter early spring tasks around the farm. I must say that although it is a 5 series tractor, it is tall and looks quite large with those tires on it.

Thanks,

Island Farmer

I think it's just hard to get used to how big it is moving up from the 2030. Barn door is 12' tall.
