What gear are you baling in?
I think I baled in Mid range in 1st, 2nd and 3rd I believe. I depends on the size of the windrow of couse. I will be baling the neighbors field next. I will give you an update on what gear I run in. It definily handles the baler better that I would of thought. It won't handle it as fast as the JD 4430, but it is still going a decect clip. Of couse the JD has 125hp with a quad range.

I rake in 1st and 2nd hgh range.
It is defintly sips the fuel.:D Raking is nice because the short wheel base allows you to turn at the ends without running over the hay.

Hi Hay Man,

From your experience up to now, would you think that the DK45 could handle every task of haying from mowing/conditioning to baling (with a bale thrower and wagon).

Would it also be able to pull a 3 furrows plow ?

Thanks, Phil

According to the owners manual of my 489 NH Haybine (9ft cut) is 35 min PTO HP so it would work. Having said that I would think a DK55/65/75/90 would be better suited for mowing hay. I would like a bit more HP and weight than my DK45 has. As for small square baling it handles a NH315 pulling a wagon fine. I have never used a bale thrower but I would think it would take a few more ponies and a little more weight might be in order. The main chores for my DK45 are cleaning barn, moving round bales, baling small squares when my JD4430 isn't availible and of cource raking.
I still use my JD4430 for mowing hay, round baling and sqaure baling when we are using the Kioti to rake.
I have been very surprised at the power this little tractor has. I am very pleased with the fit and finish also. Maybe one day I can add a DK75 or 90 to the operation.
I am unsure of drawbar HP on this tractor but my gut is telling me it is s strong 2 bottom plow tractor and in lighter soils it could be a 3 bottom.:D

I ran 2nd gear medium range. Conditions were second cutting (orchard grass alfalfa mixed) mid sized windrow. It would handle in third, but the ride was a bit rougher so I went back to 2nd. I am at 90hrs now.
