I have seen several postings on this site with regard to servicing. What I have not seen is any mention of doing the service with or without the FEL and BH attached. Does it make any difference. I'm new to tractors so sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

Great website, I usually just read and never post.

I have done all the services on my bx (560 hours) with the fel and Hoe on the machine. Doesn'tseem to be aproblem. But some here remove them and some remove the engine cover.

I remove FEL and 3pt attachments when servicing just because their easy to remove and I don't have to worry about running into them laying on a creeper.

You don't have to remove them. The oil filter will come off without having to remove the engine cowling.

That said, I removed the FEL, BH & cowling for the 50 hr so I could give it a good inspection. It also made getting to the hydro return screen much easier.

On the 100 hr I didn't remove the cowling and already had the BH & FEL dismounted since I was primarily useing the MMM, which I removed to change the oil.

The BH & FEL are so easy to R&R that I've mounted and dismounted them on several occasions on the same day.

Leave 'em on or take 'em off, either way will work.

It's definitely possible with them on. And more convenient with them off.

HOWEVER, ease of removal/replacement is definitely the point of the BX. I'd recommend using any excuse to remove/replace the BH and FEL until you are familiar with the procedure.

After doing it a few times it really gets easy.

Plus the tractor handles like a gokart without implements /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

While under warranty I leave them on and take it to the dealer. This way he can inspect them and grease them at no extra cost.

Leave them on.
Use the BH to lift the rear end and place some stands under the rear axle. Remove the left rear wheel. This gives access to the hydro screen.
Release the BH and lower it keeping it in the bottom bracket.
This gives access to fill the hydro oil back up.
With the wheels still off the ground you can check the hydro pedal adjustments.

I don't have a BH but I found it easier to access the oil filter with the cowl off. Removing that is easier without the loader on. One thing you don't really want to do is change the oil with the mower deck on. I did it once and it made a heck of a mess cause the drain pan didn't quite fit underneath and the oild wound up leaking all over the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Plus, there's a lot of spots you can't reach underneath for greasing etc.
