Bought new inner and outer air filters for it yesterday. Even though my filters are very clean it appeared that I had a tiny amount of dust past the air filters on the clean side of the intake. These filters are very cheaply made. The canister is made by Donaldson which is well known in the air Canister business. I have several pieces of equipment with Donaldson Air Canisters and never had any issues. The first Inner air filter I bought and opened it up in the Deere parking lot. It had black looking finger prints on it and one place the filter element looked a little pushed in. Further investigation it was part of the black plastic they had touched. I took it right back into the dealer and got another since I had not left the parking lot. The new filter was better looking but even it did not look great. I installed the new inner filter in tractor and seemed to fit a lot tighter. Next I went to put in the new outer air filter. I could not get it to lock in place. I compared it to the old filter and found they had not trimmed a piece of rubber by the piece that sticks out so the filter can lock into the canister. Well since it just needed trimmed off I did that myself. I then put filter in canister and was able to get it to lock into place. Tried to put cover on canister and it would not match up with X on face of air filter. Appears the face of the filter was glued off about a half inch which will not allow you to lock cover into place. I'm not sure who made the filters for Deere. They where in a plain brown box. There was not even a John Deere logo on the box. I did catch the part made in India on the filters. Back I go to Deere to get another filter tomorrow. These two cheaply made filters cost me 70 bucks.

Yikes, sorry to hear of your trouble with new air filters for your machine.

It sounds like your dealer sold you something less than genuine John Deere parts.

Let me tell you my story. I'm confident I got good quality, made in USA, genuine John Deere filters.

In August 2013 I made a large parts purchase for my 5300 from my nearest John Deere dealer.

Among other things, I bought new inner and outer air filters.

RE45828 inner air filter for $26.76

RE45827 outer air filter for $51.40

I put the air filters on the shelf, not intending to change them out until the following year.

Turns out when I went to change out the air filters they were not the correct filters for my 5300.

The new filters were larger than my old filters. Not sure if it was my screw up or the dealer's.

So I got the correct filters and did not bother just yet with the brand new wrong size filters.

The correct size filters were good quality and installed easily with no issues whatsoever.

Now getting back to the wrong size filters I was still sitting on:

Some months prior, I had taken the RE45827 (outer filter) out of its box and used the nice box it came in to ship something! So not having the box for the outer filter, I was not going to ask the dealer to do an exchange or refund nearly a year later.

The inner filter was still in its box, untouched.

I ended up selling the wrong size filters on eBay. One person bought both filters, and I shipped them off in one package. Needless to say, this person got an excellent deal on these unused filters.

When I was packing the filters for shipment I noticed how good the quality of the filters was.

When I originally purchased it, the outer filter did not come sealed in a plastic bag. It was merely inside a cardboard box (the box I had recycled to ship something else).

The inner filter was sealed in a clear plastic bag and was in a heavy white cardboard box with a white label affixed showing the John Deere logo, part description, part number, and also "Made in USA".

For ease of shipping to my eBay buyer, I removed the inner filter from its box and inserted it, plastic and all, inside the outer filter. The inner fit in the outer like a hand in a glove. Perfect fit.

The outer filter appeared to be of a very good quality.

The outer filter had the John Deere logo and part number stamped right on the filter.

The inner filter lacked the John Deere logo, but it had the part number printed right on the filter, in a dot matrix fashion, along with the words "DO NOT CLEAN".

See my photos of the "wrong size" filters I sold on eBay.

Let us know how this turns out for you!
