Oil & Fuel 5035 starts then looses power

Hello all,
I have a 5035 with 228 hrs on it. It was serviced by dealer in November. It sat most of this past winter. However, the past few times I've used it it cuts out when running at high Rpm. Will actually stop. It will restart and idle just fine but when throttled up it sputters and pukes out smoke. I thought maybe it sounded like water in my fuel so I put in some diesel fuel treatment and tried it again the next day. It ran about 30 mins great then started to sputter and lose power and blow out white smoke. I'm trying to find my owners manual, but is there a hidden water separator somewhere?? Should I empty to hole tank of fuel? Thx

Hey there fellow Mountaineer!

Check and see if your fuel lines have the braided covering. If so you'll need to get them changed. When the feed line leaks on these units, rather than fuel exiting the line it leaks air into the fuel stream causing an extreme lean condition at high RPMs, slow/hard starting, occasionally die. Eventually as the leak progresses it will cause the fuel system to lose prime and it will not start at all. The only time there is any fuel leakage is on the return line.

As for the water separator, there is a small tap on the bottom of the fuel filter that lets you drain water and sediment from the filter.

If it sat all winter it could very well be water (condensation) in the fuel tank. Did the dealer change the fuel filter at servicing?

Well, I spoke the the service manager this morning. He said it sounds like its loosing fuel at high loads. But able to run at the lower loads on its limited fuel supply. He said that my model has a strainer somewhere between the line leaving tank to the fuel filter. That its a strainer attached to some valve. I will try to find it and see if its plugged. Thanks again.

From someone who was just plagued by the fuel line issue- definitely check to see what fuel lines you have. (Original braided ones are no bueno). Also check to see if the lines picked up crap and that you don't have a partial blockage of the banjo bolt hole at the filter on the line coming from the tank. It may not be either of these but it's at least worth checking. Does it start hard or fire right up?

Actually the better question would be 'is it ever hard to start'. At the beginning it is only occasionally slow/hard to start, others it fires up like a champ.

Had a similar problem and changed fuel lines, which cured the problem. Had the black braided lines. Mahindra will replace free of charge here. Those lines are a known problem by Mahindra. I replaced mine with auto store lines till I can get it into Mahindra and then they will put new factory lines on, if I bring old lines in. Check thread above to see where I posted the measurements and sizes. Short line is 3/8 in. and rest is 5/16 in. on my 5035. Didn't see any lines going to a tap valve. I did not remove rear wheel. Was able to get tank slid out enough to replace lines and put smaller hose clamps than factory on without much of an issue. Just need the right screw driver
