Hey guys,

Need some expert opinions why my 5030 is shutting off while plowing snow?

Circumstances are level ground, M range using the FEL to move a pile. My intellipanel shows HST when it shuts off. I checked and added about a qt of S-UDT but didn't need to go out and plow anymore.

I'd put it in Neutral and it would start back up, the last time I had to have it sit for a good 10 minutes. Thought it might be a transmission issue.

Anyone ever had this happen??

Thanks

You may check the seat switch, unless hydro pedal is centered or shifter in neutral, if you lift up out of seat it will kill the engine. Had to tie my seat switch down as when I bounced or raised up when I used clutch the engine would die.

Had my seat switch zip tied since day 2. Think it might have been a shutdown due to low hyd pressure.

Might get out and run it today to see if any change since I added the UDT.

If HST is displayed in the Intelipanel when it shuts down it refers to the HST not being in the neutral position when the seat or other interlock switch is activated, I cannot see where there is a reason or a way the tractor will shut down for low pressure in either the owners or service manual.

Observing all the "won't start/shuts down" threads lately, from afar, they seem to spike when the weather up there is cold and nasty. The solutions mostly turn out to be fuel delivery related, ice, gelling, etc.

Thanks guys, I'm going to call my dealer and talk to the lead mechanic today. He's forgot more about these machines than I'll ever know.

I'll post an update once I get eh mystery solved!

No pressure sensor on the hydro. The hydro simply is a message telling you to start the tractor the hydro needs to go to neutral same as if you have your foot on the pedal on startup.

Likely seat or other issue. My seat switch had to get zip tied on day 2 as well. Constantly shutting off.

we need to know if the engine stopped immediately, like from a kill switch....or did the engine cough and sputter to a stop...2 different symptoms, many different causes could exist...

Any chance you are stalling it out? If you move to low range do you still have the problem?

Guys it just shut down like I turned the ignition off. Not working it hard enough to stall out.

No one's been able to figure it out.

I'll be doing some more cleaning this weekend and see if I can duplicate it again.

Any Mid PTO warning coming up on dash??

There is a harness on right side of transmission under the deck running up to PTO lever that has caused problems for people before, recheck seat switch also. Somewhere you are losing power in the relay circuit or getting a short in the switch circuit and it is activating the timer relay to do the shutdown sequence.

John,

Thanks!

Will get under that dash this morning. Sound right in line with my issue. Always going slow and not overloaded. I've done a ton of bushhogging so pretty solid chance there's dust up in there.

Will advise.........J

problem not under dash..call me and I'll tell you where...512-554 four one seven zero.

for me, it was intermittent for a while, seemed to occur following a big bounce, then later became a solid fail

right side from driver's seat. take off engine panel...disconnect wires that have connectors, clean out and reconnect...wire in rather plain view, simply not making contact due to vibration.

from my thread where I described my fix.

I saw in the shop manual that there is something called a tachometer sensor (electronic)....hmm....hunted it down, just under the stop engine solenoid and in same area as all the fuel injection stuff, hidden under a rubber protective shield. I unplugged it, dusted it off/blew into both sides of the connector and reconnected it. My impression was that the connector had been properly seated and not too dusty. Nevertheless, I gave it a try...not really expecting to have resolved the problem. However, it started and ran like a top under load.... I sat on it all day yesterday pulling the disk.

I don't know about a stall guard, but it would drive, very slowly, with the tachometer sensor disconnected.

I didn't see any error code on the intellipanel, but will admit I didn't study it, but did drive it for probably 10 minutes very slowly back to the house while watching the MPH on the intellipanel. Thus, likely I would have seen an error code if one were present.

I've had troubles with the main fuse box plug up on the positive terminal of the battery. The wire is full of corrosion and the connector too. Haven't found a replacement plug yet but have cleaned what in there as temp fix.

slowzuki - I have the same problem with my 2002 L5030HSTC, I leave the headlight assembly off so I can wiggle the wires. One of these days when I get energetic I will fix it. If you find a replacement plug please let us know where/what you find.

My 2008, 3540, mysteriously stalled twice this winter, moving snow with the fel on very cold evenings? This machine has never ever stalled in the 7 years i have owned it?

That's what I'm doing right now until it warms up, I've taken the connector apart and can see I need to cut 2" of the harness off to get good copper. May try to recrimp the terminal onto it.
