Had the upper linkage to the 3PH lever freeze up and ended up breaking off the lever. Took it in--shop foreman said he had seen several of the 5000 series with the same problem. The shop went ahead and drilled, tapped, and installed grease zerks which will solve the problem going forward. Is hard to get to to grease but definitely worth the trouble.

I told the him I really liked my 5203. Thought it was interesting that he commented that the 5000 series was the first good small utility tractor JD ever made. I left the farm in '68 and the 5203 I bought two years ago is the
first time I have used a tractor since leaving the farm. Don't know the history of all the JD tractors.

I have had no problems with my 3ph-linkage so far with 92 hours on my 5203. About half the hours are loader work clearing brush, burning piles and the other half mowing pastures. I do keep the tractor under a shed out of the weather most of the time.

My Tractor is back at the dealers shop with what i'm sure is a very rare problem. Last week i noticed a leak under the rear end of the tractor, so i slid under cleaned off the oil and discovered a pin hole leak in the rear end gear case next to the drain plug. My dealer picked it up the next morning and back at the shop the JD guys found another hole next to the one i found. They are in the process of replacing the defective gear case and i should have the tractor back to me by the end of the week. The holes were their all along i just never noticed the leak until i parked the tractor in a place where the oil showed on the ground. Dealer has worked hard to fix the problem and return the tractor in a timely manner considering the size of the job of replacing the gear case.

Tough deal on the pinholes. I bought a 2320 with a defective motor. Deere is replacing it--I only managed to get 25 hours on it. It has been in the shop for at least a month, but I was not expecting any better.

My 5203 set outside until the last 6 months when I finally got a shed built. I wash it down just about everytime I use it. Our water here in West Texas
is pretty corrosive-I figure that accounts for the linkage problems out here. I had about 175 hours on mine when the linkage started getting stiff. I tried oiling it but helped only on the margin.

Hope they get your problem fixed without any hitches.
