Did my 50 hr service on the 2920 this weekend and pulled this piece of silicon/rubber debris out of a hydro filter. I planned on going by the book and replace just the one hydro filter, but did both based on a recommendation by the dealer....glad I did. This looks like excess gasket material to me, but no leaks or problems so far. Kind of creepy as it looked like a parasite hanging out of the filter at first glance.

teflon tape.

Looks like the outline of some kind of cover. I wouldn't have imagined the factory used stuff like that- either there's a gasket or there isn't. That's the kind of thing I use when I can't fix something that keeps leaking.

Flash from RTV form-A-gasket? Paper gaskets are becoming obsolete since they can now be squeezed from a tube and or applied by a robot. Would suspect it came from a cover, etc on the tranny housing.

I read a long time ago that manufacturers tried RTV but couldn't keep parts sufficiently oil free on the assembly line, and they ended up with a lot of leakers. A diligent mechanic can prep the parts properly and get a good result.

Agree, It is tricky stuff, and can save your sanity when applied correctly. It can be used on some gaskets..By photo, looks like that line was just excess product..I like the metal impregnated RTV the best..

I agree with murphy1244 - it's a piece of teflon tape.

There's a reason why FAA regs ban teflon tape on aircraft fittings (or so I've been told) - you're probably looking at it.

Sorry for the poor quality pic, but it's not Teflon tape. It is rubber gasket material or similar.... I'm just glad it was not metal and the filter caught it.
