To my dismay, for my "50 hour service", the dealer changed the HST filter (orange covered one by foot area) and the hydraulic filter (gray one you can see from looking under wheel well), and the engine oil and filter. They didn't change the fuel filter as they told me it was clean. It does appear nice and clean and the fuel doesn't pick up metal debris from running through an HST transmission... so that seems reasonable.

They "topped" off the HST oil instead of changing all 6.6 gallons or whatever... After reading around about metal that gets into the oil, it sounds like they should have changed the HST / hydraulic oil instead of just changing the filters and topping it off...

It shows "lubed chassis" on the invoice and it appears they did hit the zerks (no big deal as I don't mind greasing everything and I'm pretty good about that)

I was charged about $180.00 for the service (I brought the machine to and from dealer myself). I've been reading 50 hr service averages around $400 or perhaps at least $300 and change... I'm not complaining about not spending money, but I'd like what's best for the money I have invested.

Should I take it back and demand they change the HST oil? I really don't want to do it myself as I don't have experience and I have a good setup to get the machine to and from the dealer.

Stuff like this drives me nuts. Service manual says change the HST oil, why didn't they? I guess I'll ask them and see what they say.

I had metal shavings on my oil drain magnet at 50 hours...I'd change the oil and filters to get rid of break in material and casting flash and slag...its in there!! Hard to argue with the owners manual on their part I'd say.

My dealer told me at the recent dealers meeting that Kioti said it was unecessary to change hydrolic oil at the 50 hour service. I'm not going to argue what's in the book, just what I was told. My machine only has 6 hours on it so I've got a while.

I have always found a bit of metal on the magnets at 50hrs, your choice but I would change it if it were my own. I don't want metal potentially creating problems down the road...... especially for the cost of 7 gallons of oil.

Also I have not heard any formal acknoledgment from Kioti saying its not needed to be changed at 50hrs. It is however clearly listed in the service schedule to be changed.

Literaly almost every piece of equipment from every manufacturer reguardless of who makes it will require an oil change at 50 hours if not sooner. Its the norm for a reason. I'd do it.

I would bet that there are hundreds of dealers across the country that tell customers that all the time. I have hear several myself. In the old days when all the transmissions were straight standards (crash boxes) and tractors didn't have fluid brakes, I am sure that there wasn't anything wrong with not changing the fluid. But, with the introduction of hydros, fluid clutches and fluid brakes, there is now way that I wouldn't change the fluid at 50 hours.

After doing my 50 hr. service recently and finding metal shavings on drain magnet I would consider it a MUST......DO for 50hrs. My manual says it is.......... I don't understand why they would replace filters and not fluid.

I'm kind of stumped to. Why in the world would they have changed the filters and not the oil. My suggestion is to change the oil.

They just got lazy or somehow thought they were doing you a favor and saving you some money.

My truck owner's manual calls out 3000 mile oil changes and I've had plenty of folks tell me that it is not necessary.

I follow the book in these situations. As was said, hard to argue with black and white. I sure as heck dumped all 7 gallons at 50 hours and am due again at 400+.

The 50 Hr Service is probably the MOST important service one can perform on a tractor.

The magnet on my plug looked like a Chia pet.

I agree this first major service is the most important. I think all new
tractors will have many metal fragments from machining in them (I sure
did).

The other big reason to change the hyd fluid at 50h is that no one seems
to know what Kioti used. It is most likely some generic hyd oil, not a
brand name tractor-hyd fluid that is designed for HSTs and wet brakes.

I don't think my dealer did mine at 50 either.....hmmmm I think I'll jump on that.

my DK 35 was not done till 100 hrs,,Dealer said it was ok till then,I did all fluids and filters then and all is fine.

Were I work we have a Kubota 4630 hst and that dealer said same thing,,(we dont service them till 100 hrs.
So it sounds like it might be some what common?
I would think dealers would want to do it to make money?
who knows?
just my 2 cents!

The way I read the post, the dealer changed the oil but not the HST oil. Which seems fine to me and I think that normal. Changing the engine oil at 50 is a must for the most part to get all the metal shaving out. I thought the engine oil and HST oil is two different things, or am I missing something in this thread. ?

Trust the manufacturer and change the engine oil at 50h with a
Diesel-rated engine oil, AND the Hydraulic oil (7-9 gallons, depending
on implements) with a branded Tractor-Hydraulic fluid. The latter
oil serves the HST, the hydraulic system, the wet brakes, and the final
drive (rear end). It is all in the owner's manual.

I see little shavings in the engine oil, but many metal pieces in the hyd
oil. Change oil and filters!

I know if I had a tractor with a crash box transmission and dry brakes more than likely I wouldn't change the hydraulic fluid. But, If I had a tractor that was hydro, PowerShuttle, powershift or had fluid brakes, there is no way, no how that the fluid and filter wouldn't be changed. Given the size of passages, fluid clutches, the close tolerance passages and the fluid covered wears surfaces in these systems, the fluid needs to always be keep clean as possible and that means removing any containment from the manufacturing process.
