50 hr fluid change

is the owners manual is the mechanical bible for every machine ???? For the machine it covers it is....
I would go off what the service manual says. I always buy a parts and service manual for all the machines I got.

is it possible that along with tier 4 and to comply with other "green" environmental pressures, Kubota now recommends less frequent oil changes. or in your opinion is the owners manual is the mechanical bible for every machine? just a thought

This change to only oil and filters was done about 5 years ago. I don't think the tier4 thing had much to do with it.
I bought my first Kubota tractor, actually first ever tractor, about 10 years ago. A BX2200. I looked at the owners manual that came with it and followed it for my service schedule and used Kubota products. I was a virgin to the "old more experienced" tractor/equipment owners thoughts, ideas, beliefs, habits, I heard tales, my grandfather said, old guy from high school said, drinking buddy said stories. I just went with what the Mnuf Company said to do and my Kubota dealer (Barlows) indicated that was the thing to do. Well, I figured since I started with what the company/dealer said to do from the beginning instead of old tales of destruction/lasts forever if you (me) did or didn't do some other way that has been told since 1952 I'd just stick with their recommendations from that first day on and if the company/dealer changed ways of doing things or changed recommendations then by golly I'd just keep sticking with them. Well, that's exactly what they did. About 5 years ago they said quit wasting Hyd fluid because you don't have to anymore. Did hyd fluids change, did they build their machine a bit different, have things in the tractor industry changed? I think maybe they have just like just about every other manufactured product over the past 60 years. If Kubota says to go back to changing every thing at 50 hours, I'll do just that. If they say don't change anything for the first 236 hours then that's what I'll do. I'm going to trust them more than I trust anyone else in the industry and for sure more than any individual that says it should be done different for what ever crazy reason they come up with. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.:dance1:
Now I didn't start this way with automobiles of which I've bought over 160 in the past, well since 1964. I started by listening to all the old and new guys, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Mechanics Illustrated, Etc books, magazines and stories. I struggle with not changing my oil at 3000 miles, never had faith in Motor Honey and didn't change the filter in every car I bought with an automatic transmission the first week I had it. Actually don't think I ever did contrary to my Uncle Berts advise to ALWAYS do it.
Did I get off to a better start with Tractors or Vehicles, I don't know but it's the way it is.
Follow company advise on Kubotas and sift thru past good stuff and crap and modern recommendations and try to do what will let me sleep the best concerning automobiles/trucks.:cool2:

Pretty much what John does.

I read too much on here about first change and neglected to read the manual on my L5740. I changed both hydraulic filters and got bathed in oil when I pulled the charge filter. Then I read the manual. It said to change only the suction filter at 50 hours and all filters plus oil at 400 hours. It took nearly 2 gallons to replace what I lost by not following the manual.

I first thought Kubota was being overly cautious with their change intervals because looking over hundreds of oil sample results when setting the interval of the machines for which I was responsible, I ended up way, way longer to first change. Then seeing pictures some have posted of the metal they find on their filters, I realize that Kubota is a whole different animal partly because we don't use the gear transmission case as a hydrostatic transmission reservoir. Still the suction filter should do its job catching the manufacturing crud so it makes sense the charge filter will go to the oil change. I am going to pull oil samples for analysis from my tractor at the end of the year to get a better idea on how it's holding up.
