Hey folks

I just picked up a '93 Kubota B7100HST (4X4, 16 hp) and will be needing a rear mount snowblower for it. According to the owners manual the recommended max weight of the blower is 350lbs.

In checking the local online classifieds I don't see any 3 point blowers under 5' - is that too big for this tractor - either in terms of blower weight or the tractor's power?

Most of my google searches regarding B7100 and snowblowers come up with front mount blowers and I'm not really interested in dealing with all that extra set up.

Thanks,

If it will pick it up I'd say you're ok.
Being a hydro you should be able to feed it slow enough to do the job.
I had a 60" on a 17hp 650 John Deere and it was marginally ok but it was a gear drive and low was no slow enough.

With your hst you can adjust the speed down to a crawl, which will be necessary for deep and / or wet snow.
Weight: front weight to offset the blower will help traction.
Width: optimally the blower should be sized at just over the width of the tractor.
My previous tractor was 28hp at the pto, and the recommended max blower width was 5'. I ran a 6' blower for years without issue. As long as the tractor can be counter balanced somewhat for traction, AND you are willing to go very slow in deep or wet snow with taking smaller cuts I suspect you could make it work. Probably better to shop around a little more for a 4' blower.
That said, deep or wet snow brings practically all tractors to a crawl. A 4' blower is not going to let you race through the job! What you have in your favor is the hst. Snow blowing with an under powered geared tractor is a real pain. Good luck with your decision.

Yea, 5' will be too much. You won't be able to go slow enough. I'm not sure what the stance of your machine is, but I have a Gravely 42" blower that I'd be willing to sell. You'd have to adapt it to a 3pt mount and fab up the drive shaft. I had this blower front mounted on my Yanmar 1110d and it worked great.

A Pronovost P540 model with a 54 inch cut is the smallest rear mounted snow caster that you can mount on your mule.

You need rear chains and loaded tires to take full advantage of the available traction and adhesion created by the
weighted rear tires and chains.

By adding the loaded rear tires and chains it makes up for the smaller mules lower horsepower allowing you to take a full width cut on the first pass at a slow speed and then you can take half cuts at a faster speed and then clean up the spillage.

V bar chains are the best type for your size tractor and are available from TireChain.com is Where to Buy Tire Chains | Best Tire Chains and others and you need to purchase a tire chain repair tool and a bolt cutter as they are not an exact fit-no tire chain set is due to how the tire chain sellers manage inventory where the nearest size chain for a specific tire is sold to the purchaser.

I will suggest that you add rear HID work lights to either the snow caster or the tractor to make it easier to see while working during the day or night.

His machine is hydrostatic. He can go very very slow at PTO RPM.

I think a 5 footer will be just fine.

I like that logic.

Counter weight, loaded tires and chains will be going on for sure.

I just want to make sure that I wont wreck my PTO/Diff etc if I put on a blower that is just a bit bigger than optimum. I don't really like breaking stuff so I'd be taking smaller bites out of the really big drifts no mater what size blower I get.

What I may do is pick up a 5' blower now so I'm ready to go come December but keep on the lookout for a 48-54" unit in case one does show up - I can always sell the 5' if that happens.

Perfect plan.

As long as it's under the max your tractor can lift, you won't hurt the tractor. Not by lifting it and through normal use anyway.

With hydrostatic you will have no problem.
I run that size on my gear drive with same HP and have done so for 12 years in all kinds of snow events. (It becomes all about technique.)
For sure I'd prefer hydrostatic but then I can dream, can't I.

Fact is your tractor is 48" wide and the 5' is actually what you want to cover your tracks.
I did once use a 48" on my 48" wide tractor and believe you me you just don't want to do that. (it created the greatest luge runs, LOL)
