Thinking of using a 5 ft. king kutter tiller on my JD 4210 tractor. Will I have enough power. Will tractor handle the 5 ft. tiller or would the 4 ft tiller be a better match? Anyone have experience with this?

I use a 5' KK behind my Kubota L3130 which is about the same PTO hp as your JD. I have no problems and if I had it to do over again I would have went with the 6'. But the 5' is more suited for this HP tractor. If you have hard clay soil you may need to not go as deep at first. But I don't think you will have any problems.

But what I CAN tell you is that it will bog down pretty good with the 5' tiller. You only have 22 HP PTO (if HST) or 23.5 HP if gear.
I have used a 5' tiller behind my 29 PTO HP tractor and it was a load no doubt.
The 4' would (IMO) be a better match for your HP, but the issue is your 53" track width. That means you are going to be compacting what you just tilled when making your subsiquent passes.
If you have a HST, that would be a plus. Because even though it is less HP to the tiller, you can go infinitally slow, unlike a gear.
I'll let others who may have a 4210 chime in now.

I use a 5' Kuhn tiller with my 30 HP PTO JD 3520. It seriously shakes the tractor when hitting rocks or roots, but there is plenty of horse power. I think you would be OK with 22 HP. A narrower tiller will make the job longer as you'll have to cover your tracks.

I have a 5' tiller behind my JD 4300 and it just plays with it. Not close to using all the PTO HP.
I don't see you should have any serious problem with the 5'.
If any problem at all, can just go a tad slower.

I used a 5' tiller behind my 4300HST this fall to seed my yard. It did well. I did have to go slow, sometimes very slow but this was on ground that had not been tilled in many many years and had large farm tractors running over it. I would recomend the 5' one for the 4300.

I have a 5' Yanmar tiller and pulled it for several years with a JD 4200, with the basic gear trans. I was pleased with the combination. Obviously, this depends greatly on the type of soil and your exact operating conditions and desired results. I used the tiller for some landscaping duty, but primarily for vegetable gardening. My soil varies from sandy to moderate clay. Tilling the virgin clay areas took a few slow passes with extra weights on the tiller, but had no problem with power.

I use the KK 60" tiller on my 2305 and 2320 (both 18 hp pto). It works really nice.:thumbsup: It works better then the jd647.:laughing: I aslo a had a major failure on the 2305:ashamed:, but I came to find that the problem was related to buried piece of steel, improperly functioning slip clutch and shaft length

I wanted as wide as possible for tilling tree lines. I was worried about breaking the ground the first time, as its old pasture/farm land that hasn't been worked in decades. I was completely amazed:shocked:, it worked super well. Just like someone else already said, slow down if it starts working real hard.
On a side note, I had my neighbour break the ground on some parts of what I needed done. He used a case IH 450 HP with 40' disk. It was fun to watch(for the kids and wife but not me:drool but uneccessary as I found it not really any easier when tilling compared to the area he couldn't fit into.
I'll sum it up this way! Hurry up buy it! You won't regret it!:cool2:

I have a 5' KK on my 3320 (25 hp @ PTO) and it has no problem. On new ground I do bust the dirt up first with a potato plow or sub soiler, then till. It will turn the dirt into fluff, it is like walking on fresh snow. I like the 5' because it covers the wheel tracks.
