Sounds like you have it set up about perfect. A valve adjustment is one of those things that's probably not needed but, for me, it helps my peace of mind.

I agree about the peace of mind. From comments it sounds like they very seldom need any adjustments, but Kubota recommends 800 hr adjustment and at 2500 I didn't know what I would find.

It was good to have a look so you know its baseline condition. So far your L5450 is living up to the L3's reputation. Oops, letting my bias show again....

Were you able to reuse the valve cover gasket?

Yes Dick, so far, so good. My next attempt will be to replace the grease seal between the axle end gearbox and the bevel gear housing. I saw a leak there when checking it out at purchase so it isn't unexpected. I found a thread from about '06 on changing it.

Yes WMonroe, I did reuse the gasket. It is a rubber o-ring type seal, and there are copper seals under the valve cover hold-down nuts. All appeared fine.
