Rural King RK24 and IH 404
Hi, All!

When I bought my RK24 a couple of months ago I bought a 4' box blade with it. Now I'm rethinking that decision and considering returning it (still in the wood "crate") and trading it in on the 5' one. I'll primarily be using it to maintain our gravel driveway and to smooth out some rough spots in our yard. Is anyone using a 5' box blade with their RK24? Does it handle it well?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom I have the 4 foot box blade on my rk 24 and I don't know if I would want to go any bigger. When the ripper teeth are down in a hard packed gravel driveway it will "sometimes" be hard to pull through it and spin the tires on tractor. I think with that extra foot it may be to much resistance with the ripper teeth digging and the box full of gravel. Just my thought

No problem...just buy a 5' BB that is designed for your sized machine...I pull a Bush hog (brand) box blade with a B1700 with no problem...can move a full payload of any material up any of the steep grades I work...

FWIW...even the most powerful tractors can get stopped dead if a scarifier hits something that won't move...large roots, boulders etc...

I've had a five foot box blade for my Mitsubishi 2350 for years. If the blade stops it I raise it a bit and proceed. I can then make another pass.

Thanks for the responses, gents! I also posted this on the RK tractors FB page and the general consensus there was to stick with the 4', but one guy posted a link to the one he has which is a King Kutter with four tines and the other features I want. Turns out the RK web site shows that they sell that one in red and that my local RK has them in stock. I'm trying to get confirmation that they do have them in stock and if so I will return the one I have and buy the KK version.

Cheers!
Tom

I have a different brand tractor 4x4, 24hp and use a 5’ BB. The tractor pulls it fine. As for your teeth grabbing onto some solid, that can happen with any regardless of BB width. You may find you will need to be slightly less aggressive in hard pack with the 5’ rather than the 4’, but with regular maintenance of a gravel driveway, I doubt you will ever notice anything.
Happy tractoring!
