What's an approx. guesstimate for how long it should take to get thru 2" sched. 40? Mine must be over 2 min., 1 min. for 1" square tube.. Time for a blade change? I've had the thing so long I don't remember how fast it was when it was new.

Depends on tooth pitch, blade speed, feed pressure etc

If you use it regularly and have not changed the blade it may be a good idea!

How long has that blade been on it?

I have a little different saw, and I always cut as slow as possible. But if I let my saw go it would cut 2 inch sch 40 pipe in just a few seconds. I generally get 8 to 10 months out of a blade, and I use the saw almost everyday. The blades cost about $50.00 ea.

I think your big ellis is more then a little different.
My porta band would cut that pipe in maybe 10-20 seconds with a somewhat sharp blade. (gotta put that new lenox blade on..) So I think your blade is well past its life span. The lenox bi-metal blades are very good, might want to get one of those.

Dull blades dont cut a good kerf and almost always try to go to one side - the one with the sharpest teeth. Duller blades dont cut steel at all. They rub thru it. Very hi speed will give a friction "cut".

How many teeth per inche on your blade? Coarse or fine?

Before the Ellis I had a saw a little closer to that size, 7x12 I think. Great little saw, just a pain to cut angles with!

Its fairly coarse. It came with my old porta-band when I got it on ebay, so I dont know how many tpi. I have a new lenox blade I am going to put on next time I am out there. I am sure mine is dull now, as it will not make a straight cut.

At least 15 years :D It doesn't get used much..

I'm guessing the one on it has about 15 TPI, maybe 20. Cuts real straight, just a little slow. I picked up a new one, was just wondering how fast it 'should' cut.
