I copied only the Illinois locations to show there were no engine plants in Illinois.

Almost everyone who says Mexico is either a orange dealer or owner (they just may have an agenda). No one has ever offered any proof, strictly hearsay. I have a 4120 and have looked the engine over and all I see written any where is Moline Il. for a location. I think that is in the US.

Or said orange dealers may state factual information, even if its unpopular.

Here is a link that lists all of Deere's operations. Note that engines are built in Saran, France, Pune, India, Tianjin, China, Santa Fe, Argentina, Queenland, Australia, and Waterloo, Iowa, as well as Torreon, Mexico. John Deere - Deere Worldwide

I don't know about you guys, but I'll take a Mexican made engine any day over a Chinese made one. So, just count your stars it doesn't have Made in China stamped all over it... ;)

From your JD link, it looks like the 5000, 6000 and 7000 series tractors are made in Mexico.

Engines are made in Mexico.

The CUTS frames and cabs are made in Georgia.

Gotta move up to the 8000 series and up to get one made entirely in the USA?

Like everyone else there days, Deere is only trying to get out from under the EPA, the DEQ, the IRS, the AFLCIO, OSHA, etc., etc., etc. Mexico seems to be a convenient place to do that. I don't blame them one bit.

I stopped by a JD dealership yeasterday evening after work, looked at the tractors on the lot. I located the engine tags for country of manufacture, here are my findings: 4105- Yanmar, 4120- Mexico (very well hidden tag, had to pull some wiring aside), 5325- Mexico, 5425- France, 5525, 5625- Mexico, 6415, 6420- France. All tags contain Moline, Illinois. That's JD corporate HQ.

Why do you assume the information is "unpopular"?

John Deere has world wide operations just like all global companies. The factories where the products are manufactured are setup and run by John Deere to their quality standards. There is no reason that workers in other countries cannot manufacture goods to whatever standards are set for the product.

The "made in xxx country" issue is bogus in general, and frankly meaningless for a company with international operations. It comes down to how the manufacturing is setup, supervised, and quality control - and not what ethnic group had their hands on the product.

Do you think people outside of the US buying Hitachi tracked excavators are leery of purchasing them because they're made in the United States in the Deere - Hitachi plant...?

All of the "German" VW Jettas in the US come from the VW Mexico plant....

The list goes on....and on....and on.....

I do remember in the '50's when "Made in Japan" was the big joke for bad quality...until a US manufacturing genius taught the Japanese about how to institute quality manufacturing....his name was Malcolm Baldrige.

There's now a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Quality Award named after him as part of the National Quality Improvement Act (Public Law 100-107).

US Companies are well aware of quality requirements and carry them through to their international operations....as total quality requires the integration of foreign operations into the company's quality plan.

So please, leave the innuendos in the innuendo forum - you'll find that two doors down on the left...

I think you mean W. Edward Deming, an electrical engineer who worked
in post WWII Japan and helped Japanese companies develop better
manufacturing methods. They named the Deming Prize for him.

I believe the only point trying to be made is the belief that many people have that just because it says JD, that it is wholly US made, while in fact, it may be assembled in the US with components from many countries. The comment by Messick was to another poster, who insists that his tractor is US made just because it says Deere and Co., Moline, Illinois on the serial number tags for the engine and tractor, while ignoring "Assembled in USA" and "Made in Mexico" on the same tags. This poster also accused "orange" dealers of lying to consumers about the origins of competing tractors, specifically JD.
