I know, I know, who cares? Everything is built everywhere, but the 4x20 series is the only JD CUT with a JD engine.

So, I have read on this forum that this engine is made by JD, right here in the good ole. However, I have also heard that this engine, and several other JD big tractor engines, are made south of the border aways down in Ole Mehico.

Anyone know the true scoop? I know the tractor and cab are built in the US by JD, just wondering about the engine.

I think it is Mexico.

Almost everyone who says Mexico is either a orange dealer or owner (they just may have an agenda). No one has ever offered any proof, strictly hearsay. I have a 4120 and have looked the engine over and all I see written any where is Moline Il. for a location. I think that is in the US.

Per the JD website (worldwide locations), JD Power Systems that make the PowerTech engines has a plant in Mexico.

I don't see engines anywhere on this list. BTW, I am a JD owner. My machine was assembled in Mannheim, Germany, with parts from Germany, US, France, and Spain, probably other countries as well. However, I find this under Mexico:

Mexico
Motores John Deere S.A. de C.V.
Carretera Amieleras KM 6.5 S/N
C.P. 27400
Torreon, Coahuila,
MEXICO

Motores John Deere was established to build the three-, four- and six-cylinder diesels, branded as the PowerTech 2.4, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.8 L engines, which cover an output band of about 50 to 225 hp. Initial customers for those engines include a number of outside customers plus Deere's tractor facility in Augusta, Ga., and Deere's tractor and excavator operations in Mexico.

That 2.4L looks to be what's residing in the 4x20 series.

Mehico it is, then.

Not sure why the engine would say Moline, Il though?

DGL:

Interesting that they do not include the Waterloo, IA plant on your list
of locations. Larger tractors made in Waterloo, they tell me. I got a chance
to visit the HQ in Moline and the harvester plant (next door to a shuttered
IH plant) in E. Moline a couple years ago. Engines were shipped in.

JD factory rep at the World Ag Expo also told me the 4x20 engines (2.4l)
are made in Mexico. No JD CUTs here currently, but they are always
welcome!
