4x20 Grease Fittings?

Everyone,

I was greasing up my 4520 the other day and reached down to grease the tie rods/steering linkage, but there were no grease fittings. I have to admit that this is the first tractor I had that did not have any greasing fittings on the tie rods. Are they suppose to be there? If not, how do you grease the tie rods so they do not fail? Thanks for the help in advance.

It's the same way with pretty much all new vehicles. They are service free. The only time usually you will get a fitting is if you buy an afyermarket tie rod but what's the point if the current unit is fine. A lot of mass excavation machines have done away with zerks in certain places on the machines and utilise a self contain unit. The reason is for less maintenece for the operator

Huh, I heard they did that with the pickup trucks and such, but I would have never thought they would have done that with the tractors or heavy construction equipment. I guess the tie rod must have some kind of self contained grease or something in it. Hopefully I will be able to get 20 years out of it (probably wishful thinking...).

The 22 zerks in the 400cx should satisfy your need to grease:licking:
