Oil & Fuel 4X20 fuel solenoid issue?

Greetings: 4520 working ok, shut down for lunch and on return tractor no start. I don't hear the loud clack of the fuel solenoid pulling in. Check pilot relay: OK, visual check wiring: OK. Try again to start: starts fine.

Happened again once. This was twenty or so starts ago. Talked to dealer service manager couldn't find anything in DTAC about issue. Has anyone else had this happen, did you find out what is going wrong, is there a cure?

On a related note: Manual shows three relays on fuse block I only have two, the position shown for manifold heater is vacant. But since there is not even the wiring behind it, I suspect the manual is incorrect. Anyone with better information?

I don't have an answer for your question, but I wish you the best of luck in getting things corrected. Intermittent electrical problems are some of the hardest things to trouble-shoot.

Hmm... is your battery A-OK? Got ~13v at the fuel solenoid?

Local industrial battery guru showed me a new wrinkle on battery maintainence and upkeep.

Voltmeter leads connected from +positive terminal and the -ground lead to surface (top) of battery. One of my batteries was showing 1.9v and the other battery was showing 3.6v. (They didn't look THAT bad to me....)
That's a slow discharge of the battery due to accumulated grime, etc.

If you let your tractor sit for long periods of time without use, and the battery is dirty, it may not fire up the next time you turn the key.

This situation might not apply to your intermittent problem but a voltmeter to the the fuel solenoid would be a good thing to look at --.
