JD 1070
I'm somewhat new to the tractor scene and a new member here. I just bought a JD 1070. A buddy asked if it had "front wheel assist". My question is, what's the difference between 4WD and front wheel assist? Secondly, which does my 1070 have?

Thanks

Nothing really

All CUT are front wheel assist, since it's not a true 4WD like an articulated farm tractor

Your Deere 1070 has what is known as FWA (Front Wheel Assist) or MFWD (Mechanical Front Wheel Drive). The term 4x4 or 4WD is typically used on large agricultural tractors with front and rear wheels of the same size.

It's really just a terminology difference, FWA or 4WD accomplish the same thing.

That's what I was thinking but wasn't 100%. I remember years ago when hydro first came to be, I heard of tractors that had mechanical RWD and the hydro drove the front tires. I was thinking that's what people were considering to be front wheel assist.

Many thanks.
