TYM 554
Hi all,
I own a TYM 554 and recently noticed my 4wd isnt engaging. I didnt hear any loud noises or grinding of any sort. I removed the guard that covers the shaft the goes from the rear transmission to the font differential. The shaft engages and disengages properly but something isnt engaging in the front end. I also tried lifting up the front end and seeing if the wheels turn opposite when I turn them. Both are free turning. Anyone know if there is a weak point (shear pin or something along those lines) that can be fixed fairly easily?

Are you able to easily engage, and, disengage the 4 wheel drive?

I own a T503 and I had a similar problem. It was caused by my own ignorance while engaging and disengaging 4 wheel drive. I would "man handle" my engagement T-lever located on the left side of the seat. Because I was not "relieving" the stress of the engagement by either slightly lifting the front end off of the ground with the bucket, or, moving slightly ahead while engaging, I was putting a lot of stress on the forward gearing. There is a "splined" shaft at the front, leading into the front axle. The entire shaft, from back to front, has a couple of sections. It was the forward shaft, leading into the front axle that is splined. I stripped that spline by not getting some of the stress off during engagement. After I replaced it, and then started relieving the stress of the engagement, I have never had another problem with it.

Good luck.
