4wd level stiff

For awhile my 4270 has been hard to shift in/out of 4wd. I have to stand on the lever to engage it. I see no way to lube the lever or what would make it hard to shift. Any suggestions ?

did you try moving the tractor a bit by driving forward a couple of inches?

might be that all gears are not aligned.

Same with disengaging, as long as there is tension on the front wheels it is almost impossible to disengage 4wd.

Dipping the clutch only takes the connection between engine and gearbox away but does not free all gears.

Another thought, are you having this problem with a pto implement on the tractor with the pto engaged? Can be that the implement is preventing the gearbox to freewheel and allow for mating with the front axle gears.
