I will be needing a box blade for a bunch of different tasks: clearing area to build stone base for driveway & pad, excavating moving spoils away for a house addition, etc.

I'm not sure which size box blade. My tractor is a Kubota B9200. It's a compact tractor & weights about 1700 lbs (w/o FEL). I would expect that the FEL will push the weight beyond 2000 lbs. The outside dimension from one rear wheel to the other is 55". The tires are AG & pretty good size 12.4-16. I also plan on getting the tires loaded. So, total weight will then be 2300 lbs.

I would like to cover the rear tires, but am concerned that a 60" blade may be too much. So, looking for opinions on 48" vs. 60".

I don't know if this will help or not, but I used a 60" on my BX2660 without any significant problems as long as I did not load it up too much. It stuck out too far for me and was a little unwieldy, so I went with a 48" which works much better. I had no problem with power, just lost traction with my Industrial tires.

With your tractor being geared and the Ag tires, I would be inclined to go with a 60". Of course since there are so many different models, you will need to make sure the weight of any box blade is not beyond your 3-point capability.

If ALL you are doing is moving fresh spoils (dirt that has just been dug or piled) or fresh dumped gravel, you will probably be ok with 60". But if you want to dig into the ground as for leveling an area, weight is needed so 48 would be the better choice.

I would look more around 54" or 60". Landpride makes a couple of 54" models. I tried a 60" BB on my B7200 with no FEL, no loaded turf tires, and it wasn't working as well as I hoped. I was able to move some loose dirt and minor grading, but it was just a little too big. I ended up with a 48" and it worked much better for it. Your 9200 is a little bigger and with a FEL and loaded ag tires you might be okay with a 60" depending on your expectations. I'm not sure about a 48" for your tractor since it would not cover your tire width.

Good Luck ! :)

The B9200 is basically the same size tractor as my B3200, I use a 60" box blade with good success. One in the 500lb range is a good match for these tractors, heavy enough to dig but not too much of a burden on the tractor. I have Ag tires on mine as well and I can pull the box blade until dirt boils over the top.
