Branson 4720
Hello and first thank you in advance for any information you may have.

I have a 2008 Branson 4720h that will not start without spraying starter fluid in the intake. Initial thoughts were fuel filter, so I replaced it. After replacement, the filter housing was not filling up with fuel. Some 2008's were made without a fuel feed pump, I added a fuel feed pump and still the same issue. My final thought was to replace the battery. After replacement of the battery, fuel filter, and adding a fuel pump the 4720h will still not start without the use of ether. Any thoughts on what trouble shoot next?

Some additional facts to consider....... After I start it with a shot of ether, I can shut it off and start it back up without the use of ether. I am from North Central Pa (it is cold but not terribly cold). The tractor has never had any issues starting before this winter, the exhaust smoke is normally blueish in color however, it appears to be brownish since the onset of this issue.

Thanks again.

Needing ether to start but then running ok afterwards sounds like a glow plug problem rather than a fuel problem.

Thank you all for the replies I will replace the glow plugs as soon as I trouble shoot why the ignition is not working. It's a heck of a coincidence that when I attempted to start the tractor after the new battery install that at first I turned the key and it turned over then sprayed some ether and went to turn over again and no response from dash lights when the key is in position 1 and no response from the starter in position 2.

I think you should do some troubleshooting on your glow plugs not just replace them. It could be the relay timer or bad connection somewhere. I also would recommend not using ether to start your tractor. That in itself could burn up your glow plugs. Good luck and welcome to TBN!

I have a 2007 and had a starting problem when I first bought it 5 years ago. After replacing the glow plugs the problem went away. This past year the problem came back. I pulled the power rail from the glow plugs and cleaned the rail and plug threads. After putting it back together I haven't had a problem since.
