Tractor
nothin yet, JD x585se for mowing, etc
Hello all,

I have been watching this forum for a long time now. I am finally getting ready to order my first tractor and i have so many questions. I have tested many different tractors over the last 6 months and narrowed the field down to a 4720 tractor, however I was considering a 5000 series to get a cab. The John Deere dealers I have been talking to now say that a 4720 will be available in early oct. So, i assebled a big list (see attachment for the list i sent out) of the items I wanted and following is the first quote I received back:

4720 w/cab R4's $32,500
antenna, radio and cd player $622
kit (what is this?) $56
Power beyond kit $386
Rear work light kit x2 $84
forward light kit x2 $130
rimguard $385
woods medium duty 720 bush hog $2400
chain shield $372
front weight bracket $181
70lb weights x8 $544
400x loader $5390
4 in 1 bucket
deluxe grille guard
Pallet forks 2000 $795
Third SCV $285
Woods QHB72 box scrapper $1125
Curtis Blade 7' for loader $2100
w/hydraulic angle
4000 5000 quick tach $285
rubber deflector $129
hose for blade $200
I Match ballast box $182
I Match Hitch Kit $237
Drawbar $25
Wallenstein BXR62 Chipper 6" w/hydraulic feed $5085
Land pride landscape rake LR1584 7ft $822
Dual gauge wheels $297
7' grader blade assembly $325
Weber-Lane eze WL 4 ET dump trailer $4295

grand total with out tax = $58,837

I am located in the northeast for reference.

I am looking for some suggestions on the implements. Please let me know if you think other brands/models are more capable, more economical, etc. Also, on the trailer I am looking for a on road and off road dump trailer with a gvw of around 10,000lbs. I am not so sure the one quoted here is road legal.

Also I am looking to know if you think this is a fair deal. It is a lot of money to spend on a compact tractor all at one time, so I would think I should get a pretty decent discount.

Any help and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Please feel free to ask questions as well if i need to clarify anything.

Oh, one additional question. I would like to have a 448 backhoe but apparently you can not do this currently with the cab. Does anyone know of a workaround, or JD plans that might fix this in the future?

Thank you,
Ben

Got an early quote from a dealer here in south Louisiana and just the tractor was quoted about 29600.00 + TTL. Looks like I would definately shop this tractor to find a dealer who is willing to deal.

Does the $5390.00 include the 4 way bucket with the 400X? If it doesn't thats somewhat high.I bought my 400X for $4600.00 with the heavy duty 84" bucket , Hood Guard,Bucket level, and the fork lift attachment.

yes, the loader price includes the 4 in 1 and the grille guard. sorry that wasn't clear. Does anyone know what the actual retail would be on the 4720 with cab?

As I said in my earlier post I was quoted a price of 29,600.00 + TTL. I went by the dealer today to pick up a book on the 4720 non cab tractor and I questioned the price as being too low or incorrect. I have bought with this dealer before and he is also a customer of mine as I have sold his company 2 trucks before. He showed me the article and spec sheet from John Deere meant for dealers eyes only. The price I am giving you is an extremely good price for this tractor as I will not tell you what the cost is that he showed me. This price is with R4 tires. Sorry if you do not believe me but I have NO reason to lie to you.

tractorguy56, I apologize, I absolutely didn't mean to infer that I didn't believe you. I have never purchased a tractor, and have no way to judge what is a fair deal. I am just interested in gaining a little tractor knowledge from everyone on this forum. I appreciate your response about the quote you received that will help me. I asked about the retail price simply so I could compare it to the price you and I received and get an idea of percentages.

Thanks again for the response. Please any more info would be great. I am very seriously considering placing the order on Monday.

One more thing. I have been hearing that you can put a subframe mounted woods 9' backhoe on the Kubota L5030. Do you think something like that would be possible for the 4720 w/Cab.

Thanks,
Ben

Hey tractordk, apology accepted and no problem. I wish I could help you with the backhoe issue buy I know absolutely nothing about backhoes. That price on the tractor is an extremely good one trust me - it is much less than the quote you got from your dealer. I would surely shop around before ordering. Be happy to help you out with anything else.

Often, cabs and backhoes don't co-exist.

Sometimes they can. Do your research before you order.

I've wanted a backhoe for a long time but not enough to warrant the high cost. I can get backhoe work done for roughly $50 hour with a 4 hour minimum.

You would be lucky to get a tractor priced as low as mentioned above by tractorguy56.

Will the 4720 handle a HX10 drawn rotary cutter? I am seriously considering upgrading my 4310 to the larger frame tractor. I don't want to go much larger than that because I do a lot of grading/new home construction but occasionally need something to cut large tracts (15 acres). I just recently had my 4310 repaired (the hydraulic lift pump went out). I think I was maxing the lift capabilities out handling large 42" sod rolls. I would love to have the cab model!!

I think you would be ahead finding a used CUT for the 10' cutter. Not only is the weight an issue (which is why you are suggesting drawn) but the load on the pto will be tremendous on startup. I am pulling an MX6, and am over the recomenfation with that, an HX10 is gonna really be overblown...

Of course, you probably have figured out how many hours each would take and what the payback will be on different size cutters to cut 15 acres.
