John Deere 5103 w/ 512 LDR
Okay, so I was going to bite the bullet and order a 5203...told I couldn't get one with industrial tires until June '08, so...I ordered a 4720 without the loader. Should be here the first of the year.

I didn't get a loader b/c I've decided to go halves on a Caterpillar 252B skid steer with my F-I-L.

I'm getting 900# of weight on the front of the tractor to smooth the ride with my MX-6 while shredding. I'm also getting the hydraulics in case I want a 400cx, later.

Price info for others to reference:
4720, R4s, loader hydraulics, 900# front weights, front tool box, Imatch, cruise control - $25k

Supposedly, we'll have the Cat next weekend and I'll get the 4720 sometime in January.

Daddy's having a helluva Christmas!

Wonder what I'm going to have to buy Mom to make up for all of this.

Cool deal.

Did you imatch or extendible links? The extendible links are worth it.

Start saving your money - you will want a loader - you are addicted to this stuff. :)

Also, if it is like my wife - she just goes and gets what she wants...

I got Imatch, since I already have a box blade, MX-6, rake, and rear blade in my barn ready to pick up.

I figure the Cat will squelch my urge to buy a loader.

Congrats, CWP37 on takin' the plunge (in more ways than one)! I'm gettin' closer to makin' a move myself on a new machine.

I was kinda hopin' you'd get one of the '03 models so I'd have a chance to hear your experiences before I jumped in!

I'm leanin' more and more towards gettin' a JD110 with the Top n tilt and a thumb. Momma says go for it!!! And we're lookin at maybe 40-48 more acres to work (read clear timber) so, I need somethin' that can take a lickin' and keep tickin'!!

Lookin' forward to seein' your pics.

That is a nice pair, but the tractor really looks naked without a loader. I'm sure you will get by though. JC

I thought so, at first. I got the hydraulics in case I change my mind later. I actually really like the visibility/maneuverability w/out the loader.

The Cat runs circles around any tractor for loader work.

I'm jealous! Looks great.

And I can't see much use in having a FEL when you have a skidsteer around. No FEL should make mowing easier.

That (and I hate to admit it) the hydro makes a huge difference getting around and under trees and such. I didn't think I needed hydro, but I doubt I'll ever go back now.

There ya go - it is was nice. I wish they had it on the 25 series. Oh well, I can live with my power reverser. I bet we see e-hydro in the larger tractors in not too long.

I was happy with my "old school" 5103...until I drove the hydro for a few minutes. It just makes you so much more efficient if you have to go around stuff or back up. I did some landscape rake work and it literally took me at least half the time it would have with my old 5103.

Great lookin' machines, Chip! That Cat is a beast! Need to line up your FIL's 990 in there, too.

Those are two great machines! Good work. I've got a 4700 and a New Holland Skidsteer and use the skid preferentially for loader work and to do snow removal with a containment plow. You need forks for the skid too. You've got two fine machines there. Good move getting the cab on the skid by the way. Enjoy them!

I tell ya, it is hard to describe until you have one. I wish my 5525 was hydro at times. I was going to get rid of my 4720 when I got the 5525 but I decided it was almost paid for and it is so handy and easy to use. The 5525 is used on bigger jobs. The 5525 has 2X the hours on it and I have had 1 year less, but that is why I have it - for big jobs.

Anybody getting a smaller tractor should seriously consider e-hyrdo. It is a time saver and basically anybody can drive it.

Chip,
Nice looking machines, I am glad to hear positive feedback on the hydro transmissions. I ordered a 110TLB and you could only get a Hydro unit .My 4310 is a power reverser and I never had one complaint about it but, from the feedback from everyone I will not miss it either.

Much luck ,with many hours on the new toys.
