4710 - Arrives!

Took deliver of the long-awaited 4710 on Friday. So far everything appears to be ok, no leaks, creaks, or surprising noises.

Have to agree with RockyRidgeFarm who I believe said you don't manhandle an MX6 around to line up to the hitch pins that last little bit. There's not a flat spot around. One of the first jobs for the 460 and new tooth bar will be to create a spot bigger than 5x5 feet that (even if it isn't perfectly level) at least lies on the same plane!

Cut about 3 acres with the MX6 as test - some about 12" relatively thick grass, some 'hayfield' about 3-4 feet high. Neither mower nor tractor took much notice. Tractor never got above 1/4 warm.

Wow nice u could come over and play in my field it needs mowing I realy like the MX and LX rotary cutters too.. nice rig..

You might want to consider spending another $200 to get the I-Match coupler. Your rotary cutter and ballast box are made to match it and you won't have to worry about how level the ground is when you hook up or detach either.

In my opinion it is the best $200 you can spend on new John Deere equipment.

I probably will get an I-Match style rig but most likely one of the more adjustable aftermarket units once I get a chance to compare, not the Deere factory unit. Couple'a cans of green paint and we'll be set.

Forgot to mention earlier - the dealer took good care of us with the 'goodies'. The delivery driver showed up with a couple of hats, mugs, and an Ertl 'Gator'! We got a chuckle out of that last - while we had been working the quote my wife mentioned that she wanted a Gator, and "couldn't they throw one in?". The salesman chuckled and said that he could "work the numbers that way". /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I told him that was quite alright, just the tractor please.

But they didn't forget - and now my wife has her 'Gator'! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So far seems like a good group at the dealership (Lone Maple in New Alexandria, PA) , from the salesman who tracked down what might very well have been the last new 4710 reverser in the northeast up in Vermont and got me a reasonable quote, to the mechanic who set it up and spent an hour with me going over everything, to the delivery driver who did the same.

It is indeed a toothbar on the HD bucket (see attached pic when it was still at the dealer). Should be the 'new' Deere option that came out with the release of the 400X loader and attachments.

I think the telescopic draft links are the ticket with the MX, as the quick hitch adds the need for additional ballast, since it moves the mower back. YMMV...

You're right about that - even the implement code / ballast chart in the manual lists different front ballast whether MFWD/2WD or QuickHitch/normal hitch.

With the loader on (haven't attempted to take it off yet) I haven't noticed any ballast issues with the MX6. Pick it up or drop it down a bit quickly you can get the tractor to rock just a little bit on the tires but it seems happy enough with the load.

Jury's still out on how much this 7000 lb. beast will mark the ground - it's been so dry that things are rock hard - all I see are the faintest marks. It's supposed to rain nearly all this week though, so we'll see what happens if the grounds a little softer next weekend.

The new tractor looks great. Hope it works out well. If you are anywhere near here, you should have some nice soft ground to try it out on. We got a ton of rain over the past day and a half. I waded up into the field tonight to check on my little patch of corn. It will be a couple of days until I take the new 4310 out again. Good luck.

Nice tractor. Do you do a lot of farming type work requiring the R1's? I have the r4s, and havnet noticed any slipping, of course I havent had it out disking up fields either.
