455 Blows PTO Fuse

If you had a DC clamp on meter, you could check the current to the solenoid. I suspect it is getting hot and drawing a lot of current.

my 455 jd blew 15 amp fuse on ctl board when pto was turned on, found pto selenoid on rear of trans, was apperantly shorted internally, showing vert low owms compared to a new one. about $150.00 at deere, cheaper on line, but dealer in stock and let me ohm parts before buying. thought that was better than the few bucks saved and waiting several days. part # AM878297

This is exactly what my 455 is doing. Only I just replaced the pto switch and thought that i may have gotten a bad one. It runs fine until I pull the pto knob then immediately blows the top 15 amp fuse. Where on the rear trans is this solenoid at? I am hoping that is the problem THanks

yes . PTO switch turns selenoid on, running fine after replacing . found selenoid hot to touch after about 10 min engaged. never checked it before now so this may be normal.

What solenoid did you end up replacing? Was it the one on the rear trans ?
