4530 Bad LucK???

Dougster - yup - I actually stopped there last year when looking at everything out there - which ended me up at the awesome dealer of Alexander Equipment for the BX... that was pre-35 acres - and now my wife blames the BX24 for more acres... ;)
When I looked red - everything at the dealer was "bigger" than what I needed then... not now.

VERY happy with my local Kubota dealer - as I said before - but, like all things, as the size grows so does the price... going something other than standard orange or standard green might be a way to get a bigger tractor that I won't kill with the acres - while not killing the savings account.

One thing I have learned over time is brand loyalty is good for only the single product - a single time... So - if I'm looking for a new "field ride" - then I'm starting over at square one...

DavesTractor - I know, I know... I was really hoping to the reps side of things... And - sure over in the standard orange board - there are strings like this where a guy gets a tractor that was put together after a long night of assembly line beers... I understand that. I'm sure they make a good product...
My honest opinion of them - after my brief looking was - nice big heavy tank like tractor - with less "creature comforts" and fit and finish than what we could call tier 1, in the US, products. That said - I'm not sure all the bells and whistles on tier 1 US tractors need to or do exist anywhere other than the US for some of our rotund weekend warrior farmers... so, I'm OK with plane jane - get er done design.

Your opinion is not unreasonable... although you've got me wondering exactly which models you checked out. Some models/series are clearly more refined and modern... some clearly more "traditional"! :)

Sounds like you do know what you're looking for. It will be interesting to see what make and model you eventually decide on. :)

I can tell you this - it will be a long time "deciding" - until the wife sees me killing myself with the 4' hog in the 35 acres!

Actually - I'll likely keep the BX24 for a while and just trailer in the bigger JD when I cut the fields. New axles for the trailer are a LOT cheaper than a new tractor already!

Dealer pickup tractor up a week ago and worked on again.
We have had rain here for 3 straight weeks, so have been unable
to test yet.
Will let everyone know.

Scubapop,
I feel your pain, my friend. Just read some of my 7520 posts. I'm just a few dollars short of having $30,000.00 invested in my Mahindra and I've had all kinds of trouble with it.

This is my first Mahindra AND IT WILL BE MY LAST!!!!

Scubapop,
What part of the state are you in? I bought a 4530 in October, and although I am still just under a 100 hours, I have no reason to complain. And those hours have been tough ones, mainly clearing woods of 6" dia and larger trees. Since there have been no problems, I haven't had the tractor in to the dealer. However, he has been extremely helpful with my numerous questions over the past 9 months. The very good feedback I got from others in the area about this dealer was one of my reasons for buying.

I am glad you are happy with your purchace.
I am in south central Oklahoma.
I used for farming, rather than clearing.
The dealer has been ok, when he is not too busy.

Really sounds to me like you have dealer issues more than anything else. I'm sure the dealer was in a much bigger hurry to sell you your tractor than they have been to fix it right. A lot of this stuff is preventable with a tech spending a little time making sure the hydraulics fittings are sufficiently tight and sealed. The switch is something else, but I think I could come up with an easy fix for it in no time. Ford's had a notoriously finicky netural switch on their range selector, and when replaced didn't last long. Let's just say my late FIL's Ford 4000 no longer has to be in neutral to start it.
