I notice while running the tractor this weekend that my throttle lever won't stay put. I pushed it up to a higher rpm and it floated down to middle of the range.

Do any of you know what I could look at to try and fix it?

Thanks,

Bryan

I believe you have to take apart the I.P. and tighten the nut/bolt that holds the lever. I have this issue also and am waiting until Fall to take care of it.

My 4410 does this. Gets old fast. There is a bolt you tighten on the throttle arm. The bolts tighten a friction disk I think. Not easy to get to the bolt.

When I did it the first time I pulled the steering wheel and the black plastic panel around dash. Not easy to get back together. Second time I did it I removed lower panel around fuse box. I was able to get a wrench up in from there. I put another wrench down through the slot for the throttle. I turned lower wrench to tight. Been holding up since.

Yes, thanks for the tip. I'll give that a try also.

No problem. The 4510 is the larger frame over my 4410. I think you will find you have the same adjustment. Not sure if access is any different on the 4510 over my 4410. It would be nice if you find that you have more room in there to work. When I did take off the steering wheel and that top dash panel you need to deal with the tilt mech. and getting it back together. You need to hok some plastic band or something as is no joy at all. That is why I found another route to the adjustment bolt. I actually had to take it apart twice as I didn't tighten it enough. Didn't want to tighten it to much. I found that it was losing throttle in the mid range. It would be nice if the bolt was fixed and the side panel had a plastic plug you remove to tighten up the nut a bit.

Bryan,

My 4700 did this as well. I had to take off the panels around the fuse box and I think the green one as well. But I was replacing the dashboard glass at the same time so maybe you won't have to take as much apart as I did. On my the black fuse box panel fit over a bolt. The fit was VERY tight. I had to very carefully pry the panel off with long screw drivers. Then I made the bolt hole larger.

The throttle linkage just needed tightning. Took a minute or so to fix it. But took a good hour to get to where I could fix it.

I ran with the loose throttle for years. I mean years. What did I do to keep the throttle in place? I created a TPW, aka Throttle Position Wedge, which is a piece of cardboard, maybe 2 inches square, wrapped in the mechanics friend. Duct tape.

Put the throttle where you want it, and push the TPW in the throttle slot and you are good to go. :D:D:D When done with the tractor, pull the TPW, slow the RPMS down, and put the TPW in the fender box for next time. ;) I think I wore out one TPW and had to make a second one. :D

Dan

TPW, I like that. I have to give you points for originality. I appreciate the info. I just noticed mine being loose. I feel like if I don't fix it soon, I'll go crazy.

Thanks again.

I am ashamed to admit it. But I just now this weekend got around to tightening my throttle lever. I can not believe I went sooooo long without correcting the problem.

All I did was remove the cover from the fuses and move the panel with the ignition switch out of the way. From there, I could get a wrench on the bolt and the nut. Once I got it tightened the way I liked it, I put a locking nut on it to try and prevent it from getting loose again. I don't know if it had a locking nut originally or not.

I am a happy camper again.
