During my travels recently in rural Ohio, I had to travel a section of rt 30, (see Gary's post about the Lincoln Hiway) to arrange the fabrication of a new equipment trailer for my business. I got to see a lot of the old "road less traveled" so to speak. On my next trip back to pickup the trailer, a friend rode along and started to have a " low carb attack" and said he wanted to stop for lunch asap. Must have been 5 min. past his regular feeding time !! Not having alot of choices on this stretch of old 30, we stopped at an old roadside diner for lunch. Once inside on my way to the wash room, I walked past an old JUKEBOX and noticed it said "for sale" see "Rick".........The owner said it worked, but the license fee was $400 per year, and he wasn't going to pay to renew it, as it didn't make him much money after he paid the fee and maint. etc. I made him an offer, and yes.....the rest is history. I now have it in my garage, yes it works !! Now I need to find some old music from the 60's, 70's and 80's to fill it with. ( When did they quit making records? ) If anyone out there still has a box of old 45's in their garage or attic, I would be real interested........I looked on EBAY.........but with the cost of each record and shipping, it would defeat the lo buck deal on the machine. I grew up in the sixties, being a '58 model so anything from the 60's or newer would be neat to find. I got rid of my turntable and albums about 15 years ago with the start of factory cassette players in the cars, and probably just threw out the 45's as "useless" except as skeet shooting targets. If you have a box of them , or know someone who does, send me a PM with the info, and I'll answer back. Thanks in advance............TOM...............I'll post a picture of the jukebox later.........

Tom,
They actually still put out some current songs on 45's for the sole purpose of being played on jukeboxes.

What kind of music are you looking for? I've got over 2,000 45's, but they're almost all country & western. I'll give you some of my duplicates, if you like that kind of music.

A little closer to home, is the indoor flea market in Strasburg still operating? Last time I was there (5-7 years ago) they had lots and lots of records there. The top floor of the building was almost entirely records! They used to give discounts for buying several at once.

Andy........I'm more into rock, although some country songs put out now would have been classed as rock and roll back then,or rock back then would be country now.........Take the eagles for example.......as for country.....i don't go for the twangy stuff, but Alan jackson, Toby Kieth, garth brooks etc are OK..........I live actually 20 miles north of strasburg..................The last time I was at garver's was probably the same time frame you were there...........i'll try to stop there sometime this summer...........Thanks.........Tom

Check out the pawn shops. I have seen a lot of records at them. Especially, the older shops.

TOMSEQ:

check the local auctions too, they usually will feature box or two of old records, a friend in mansfield has about 5000 old records and reel to reel tapes. he is into that kind of stuff. (on a different note, some of the old records are making a come back as people found out they have a warmer tone than CD's heck can't even get cassets much anymore...)

Were did you get the trailer? MORTZ in Mansfield or that place down off I77 ? There is also a few other stops, small trailer place by Applecreek on 30 too but I think he just re-seller not fabricator.

That's where most of mine came from.
You can go to an estate auction, where they are auctioning off someone's lifelong belongings, and purchase their box of records for five dollars! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

A few years ago when I was into restoring coin-op equipment several machine vendors in the area had dozens of old 45's from jukes for sale. You might want to try searching locally for coin-op game distributors. Most of them also put jukes in restuarants and such, and just might have old 45's laying around to sell. You just might get lucky.

Rock on.

Mark.......I had taken my butler trailer to Appalachian MFG in salem oh (south on SR 9 ) to have them copy it with a few modifications.........I sold the 2002 butler 18' tilt top tag, and had appalachian build me a replacement...........18' tilt , 14000 gvw with extra x members, pintle hitch, 80" between fenders, and a extra heavy tail approach ramp for hauling towmotors, rub rail, extra stake pockets and d-rings.I just need to weld on my strap winches and I'm ready to go !!.........$2000 less than a new butler and built the way I wanted..........I ran rt 30 to east canton then rt 172 ( old 30) from there to salem. Decent quality and factory direct prices. ..........TOM

That sounds cool. I have a couple ice cream buckets full of 45's. I'll have to dig them out to see what's there. I remember I had the Batman theme from the TV show. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep was just about a mile away form my place as the crow flys. there is a BIG hill as you get out there, which has a BLUE Bridge over the top of US30. My place is down at the end of that road just north of US 30 on SR30-A (OLD 30.) you pass the road sign which has 2 road numbers at the Ashland and the Wayne CO lines, 95 or 15 depending on which county you want ot go by LOL. that road leads down and then you go uphill for aobut 1 mile and I live beside the OLD church converted to a comunity center. I'm near the top of the county there! lol. good thing is we won't have to worry about flooding much /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif bad thing is if we get a drought the water table is down about 150'. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

hey any good 8~10K trailers with brakes on down you're way?

been looking around here and everyone wants 2K + for a good/new one and the used ones are trashed or use mobile home axels and even then they want 600 or so.

anyhow good to know people are coming and going by me.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
