I've just ordered a 4520/400CX/448 and the dealer threw in a bunch of stuff, including covers to protect the backhoe stabilizer strut hydraulic cylinders. I didn't think about it in the heat of signing on the dotted line, but now I can't figure out whether these things would attach to the strut or to the cylinder.

Has anyone seen or used these protectors? Do they get in the way? Are they useful? I can't find any reference to 'em on jdparts or anywhere else on the Deere site.

Maybe I'll just have to wait 2 weeks to see what turns up! But I'm curious, and I wanna know now!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Tom,
The ones I have seen have been aftermarket and go on the shaft.Yes the do keep dirt off of the cylinder and seals.

Hi Jim,

I rooted around a bit more last night, and found a JD partnumber for the stabilizer protector (LVB25239), but a search on jdparts doesn't find any matches. My dealer saw them at the JD training facility in Florida, and mentioned that they make getting up on the backhoe easier than using the little step.

I took your advice and went for the extra horses. The cost difference isn't all that great, and there's a 0%-36month finance plan in effect in Canada, so it'll be spread out over three years. Hard to beat zero percent... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's gonna be a loooong two weeks!

The step/protectors clamp on the hydrolic cylinder body of the stabilizer. They actually protect the outer hose connection. When your trench material is stockpiled they keep rocks from breaking the hose/cylinder connection. Hope this helps. mike

Ah. That makes much more sense! And I'm glad the dealer added them, now that I see how exposed that fitting is...

I couldn't see how the whole shaft could be protected without the part getting in the way when raising/lowering the stabilizer.

Thanks, Mike!

Anyone have a picture of these protectors?

If not, Mike, could you post a picture of them when you take delivery. Matter of fact, please post several photos of your entire rig.

Thanks shooter

I will be happy to post photos, when I get the tractor. Should be another 10 days or so, I think. And here's hoping we don't get two feet of snow on that day! Once it's here, my new baby is going to live in the garage, so I can take pix anyway. Guess the ol' B414 is going to spend the remainder of the winter outdoors...

I will try to get a picture tonight and post it Thursday morning. That is, if I can figure out how to attach it to my post. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I know how to load them into my member photo gallery. I just never tried to attach to a post.
