445 Tractor Serial Number

According to my tech manual there is supposed to be a Decal on the R/F of the engine block. My tag is missing.
I found on the air cleaner the following.
FD620D
Family ID SKA617U5G2RA
Manufacture Date 10/96

What I am trying to determine is this the serial # and what are the timing gears made of.
I bought this tractor with 18 hrs on the clock at a garage sale. The original owner has long since moved away.
It is now over 950 hours and I don't want to start eating pistons because of nylon gears.
40 years as a mechanic but no experience with John Deere.
Your help would be appreciated.

Since you have a date of 10/96 I'm guessing its the lawn tractor and not the farm tractor with the 2 cyl. diesel. 96 serial numbers started at 040001 up to the 97 serial numbers starting at 050001. Yours should have a number starting 040XXX. Decals have a tendency to come off when tractors are hosed off a few times. The 040XXX number should be stamped somewhere. Maybe a Deere dealer could answer your question. I would think nylon gears would have worn out long before 950 hours but not familiar with the engine.

I believe it is stamped in the main frame towards the back behind the rear wheels. I don't remember which side. The engine was assembled 10/96 so the tractor could even be an 98. Most likely a 96 to 97.
