4440 hydraulic suction filter removal

JD 4440 I can’t get the suction filter lose to remove it for cleaning. It takes a half inch break away but it doesn’t go in far enough to get a good bite. I don’t want to wallow it out! Any suggestions to get it out?

I sure thought 1/2'' breaker bar fit in that plug. Hit plug squarely a few times with a BIG HAMMER help break plug loose.
