I was plowing using my grandfathers 1960 Massey Ferguson 2 bottom plow Turning over dirt in the back of a pasture to make a deer food plot when all of a sudden my 4410 e hydro dies on me just stalls and nothing when I turn the key. I checked the fuel and all fluids everything normal, checked the hydraulic level , fine. checked the electrics the lights work but nothing when I turn the key. Thinking it was an electrical problem I pulled fuses inspecting them one at a time. I discovered a blown 20A fuse in spot F5 it is for the Switched circuits

. I pulled the fuse for the work lights (F6) and replaced it as I did not have any spares in the pasture with me. The tractor started up fine and I kept plowing. After 3 more passes that fuse also blew. Facing a long walk back to the barn I pulled out the headlight fuse (F7) and drove the tractor back to the barn.

Fuses are cheap protection from larger problems that could severely damage my tractor, I get that. Does anyone have any idea why that fuse might be blowing so often? On cursory inspection I did not see any frayed or exposed wires. Any common causes to trouble shoot?

Had a similar problem on a different model. After lots of frustration it turned out to be wires going to the seat safety switch were worn through causing a short and blown fuse. Good luck.

For chasing down a short, I fashion up a 12v light bulb that will replace the fuse, and then try to find out what is causing the light to be on (which is the short). Intermittent is harder to find, but the light bulb is cheaper than blowing fuses.

This is correct. You could also use a digital volt meter. It will read 12volts across the fuse slot until you locate the short.

Thanks for all your help. It was indeed the seat switch wires. They had been pinched under the seat wearing through the insulation. With regular use there was no problem but over rough terrain the additional travel of the seat shorted the wires blowing the fuse.

I've moved the wires so they are no longer pinched and resealed them with liquid electrical tape.
