hey all -

likely going to sell my 6' rear discharge 3 pt JD mower deck and get a belly mower, or thinking of a ZTR. i have about 2.5-3 acres to mow and want to speed things up. the rear discharge was better than my old 26 hp craftsman 54" gasser, but is difficult to maneuver. my wife had me put some trees in (not many), a garden, strawberry patch and we have a fence. so i need more maneuverability.

just wanting everyones thoughts on a MMM vs a different ZTR machine (keeping the 4410 for other reasons).

For the cost difference, it makes more sense to get a ZTR to me. Just a lot faster mowing time. And its always good to get a new machine:thumbsup:

I would get a ZTR for the trimming and still use the 6' 3 pt mower for the open areas.

It depends on what you like. I have had ZTR's but do not personally love using them. I have posted on this before and it is just personal preference. One thing I do not like is that I seem to perpetually be covering my allergic self with clippings when making fast turns and I have also had a close call or two using a ZTR on steep and slippery ground. I personally prefer a belly mount mower but a 4410 will not mow even with a 6' mid-mount as fast as a medium-sized ZTR. I have little experience with the homeowner's level ZTR's, which likely would be fine for your lawn, but do have experience with both JD and Gravely commercial level--both of which I can recommend. I suppose the ZTR dedicated mower option is the better one, but just make sure if you can to look into a small commercial level one (even low hour used-so long as it is not a JD 800 series). I would think a 54" deck on such a machine would your property in about one hour, if not less and do a great job.

Having used mmms and rfm and also demo'd ztr, I would recommend the ztr. I just made the same move as your thinking about. I have a flat 7.5 acres, the only slope is the ditch. I feel the mowing time will be cut in half. I bought a used z465 and I'll get rid of my rfms.
