Mark,

I've been pricing 4400's and that sounds in the ballpark. I'm sure some people have done better, some worse.

With that much land, are you sure you don't need a larger tractor?

Have a JD 60 with trip loader. Want something smaller for building trails for atv's and horses in the woods fencing, landscaping, dig in water lines, maintain driveway (1\8 mile) plus the wife likes this size better than the 4500and up.(this was an important selling factor LOL) Also have large garden and want to build a green house and another garden spot. All the field work is done on shares by others........Plan on getting MX-5 brush mower and post hole auger and later a front mount s-blower....

Hey kerr, thats a good idea! Ill see if he bites and let you know.....He already went down $2375.00 this morning to match lowest quote from two other dealers. Im happy cause he has a real good looking svc. dept. and shop (clean and well organized) although he's 10 miles further than the nearest dealer (30 miles) Thanks for your response, kerr........

Mark,
Go to www.johndeere.com and use their configure program. Take that price and take off 15-20% and that's an average deal. Anymore than that you're getting a great deal any less you're not getting a good enough deal. Anything I've bought from deere I've gotten between 25 and 30% off of what list was, but I'm right in the heart of deere country and we have alot of dealers. From talking and reading from other guys deere dealers aren't so good in other parts of the country. Still no matter where you are you should be able to get at least 15-20% off of list.

cowboydoc, I did what you said and used the jd cinfigurator and came up with the list price of 33,474 dont know how good my math is but with the quote above, i think its around 16% ( I'll bet my math is being checked right now I think I hear calculator keys in the distance..LOL) I checked on the written quote and realized there is a MX-5 rotary cutter on the quote that i missed and that would make it more like 20%. I'll clarify with the dealer on the 6th of august when he gets back from the JD convention in NM. He said only the ag dealers are invited to this one (not the lawn and garden dealers) and they will be discussing the new 40-10 series. He wanted to let me know before I bought the 4400 that the new series was coming out at the end of the year and he didnt want me to come back in the weeks after the sale and be upset with him for not telling me that the tractor I just bought from him was being discontinued! Give him points for being straight with me any how. He also wanted know if I wanted to wait till the end of the year for the new or still by the 4400? Just when I get my stomach all settled I find myself with another decision! Guys, I need your input now more than ever. Hillbilly, ! you own a 4400 , is it a good machine ? The dealer just got a new 2001 in last week and says its my tractor if I want it (my wife does!) Ithink its time for a haircut (real short) so I dont start pulling it out LOL Thanks for your input guys.....Im listening

It is a good machine, there is a lot of tractor in the JD 4400, I think all of the 4000 series are good machines. As far as that goes John Deere in general is a good product.

Mark,
The guys that I know at deere have told me that it's not anything to run out and trade for if your current one is doing the job. They're going to be changing some ergonomics and adding in the little things from consumer complaints. Some things will now be standard that weren't but it is not a major re-design, more a fine tuning from the 4000 series. There will be a price jump though. If I was you I would get up to like 30% off of list or so and then buy the 4400. When the new ones come out you know they won't be dealing and the dealer you are talking to is not going to want to have an old one sitting around when the new ones are there for the same price.

I was taking your advice, and using the jd configurator, can you tell me where you add the fel ? $$
or do you know what the list price is for the 460 fel w/ hood guard
Thanks -
I got to get this tractor this week, 4500, 4wd, fel, can't stand it anymore, and wife is out of town !!
Would y'all recommend JD or BushHog cutter, med to light cutting.
