Hi all, I've had this 4400 (gas) for a while a now and I refuse to let it become scrap. Last fall I had the (13')BH hooked up to it and it instantly sucked the life outta this o'l girl. She was tired and I knew I was pushing it. As soon as I started moving the dipper around it was over. To give you an idea of how bad it is, I park it in an out building that has a sand floor. When I was pulling out for the first time last week, I had to engage the diff. lock. It went from 1800rpm to a stall almost instantly.
Now, it's time for an overhaul. I've never rebuilt an engine this big before, only dirt bikes and small engines but I'm ready to give it a shot. I have the service manual, follow directions really good and can hold a tight tolerance. I'm pretty sure I have all the machines to support my rebuild. Bridgeport, horizontal mill, jig bore, lathe, OD-ID grinders, surface grinder and all the tooling that goes with them. I'm going to bore it, deck the block and rebuild the head myself. I won't know how bad everything is until I open it up. I'm hoping to reuse a lot of the old parts. Yesterday's tractor seems to have everything I need for parts, has anyone used them for engine parts before? I'm not afraid to spend a little extra to get better parts. If there is a better place to get them, please Let me know. I'll take lots of pictures and ask a LOT of questions as I go. I have to work all this weekend but hopefully I'll have it on an engine stand by early next week.
