I searched for this in the forums, but didn't find it...

The coolant recovery tank on my 4310 has a crack in the back side of it, about half way up. Appears to be a crack in a seam. Not sure how that happened, but there it is.

The recovery tank is attached to the fuel tank by a stud, presumably into a nut inside the tank, which presumably is molded into a posket to keep it from spinning. But, I can't get the stud loose-- whatever is supposed to keep the keeper on the other side from spinning, isn't. I can't see thast corner of the tank through the filler hole or though the sensor port.

The JD service guy recommended jamming a screw driver behind the flange on the recovery tank to put some pressure on the nut. Seems a bad thing to be doing against a poly fuel tank, but I did try it a bit. No go.

Cut the bolt head off. Remove your recovery tank. Cut the bolt flush with the tank. CAREFULLY drill the bolt out untill you can remove it. Epoxy the nut in place, replace the bolt and new recovery tank.

OR,

if there is enough room on the bolt, once you cut the head off, you can drill a hole through it for a pin. Put your nex tank on with a washer and a cotter pin.

OR

you can buy a new fuel tank..:D

Good ideas...except that last one!

I can keep coolant in that recovery tank above the min line without it leaking. And the tractor is operating at normal temps, so this is isn't a critical thing. But a guy likes his stuff to be in good shape, so I will likely cut that bolt off this weekend, and epoxy a new nut or maybe even fashion a neat tight strap to hold the new tank.

I did FINALLY find the fuel leak. Mice had nibbled a line and it took me a while to find which, and then it was hard to get my hand in there to get the old line out and the new one in, but it's fixed.
