JD 4300 HST 4WD
Was just out doing some bush hogging and a stick popped up and snapped off a fuel hose right where it connected to the tractor. I'm going to post a picture of the part. It broke off what looks like a brass nipple where it inserts into a cast aluminum part. I was able to remove the broken end. I am not sure if this "nipple" is something I should be able to buy anywhere or if it's special order or if I have to do the usual jd thing and buy this whole part. If anyone has advice it would be much appreciated. 4300 hst 4x4. image.jpg

I should mention that the broken one looks just like the one that is still sticking out.

What I would do is take the fuel pump apart, then drill & tap the hole for a pipe-thead-to-
hose adapter. You can get the adapter at most hardware stores, usually a 1/8NPT thread.

Otherwise, check JDparts online for a price, and be sitting down when you find it.

Connected to what part of the tractor??

Connected to what part of the tractor?? Dratted sticks seem to find the soft spots...

Does it look like this "pump" part, item 5 ? If so, about $125

That's it. #5. $125 doesn't surprise me a bit. I think I'll find a $2 pipe thread to hose barb adapter as dfkrug suggested and tap it. Absolutely idiotic that it wasn't built with threaded adapters to begin with. I am really finding more and more examples where there was a lot of thought put into designs for reasons other than the consumers convenience.

Thanks all.

They don't plan for sticks to poke those hose connectors off, nor plan for the customer to repair the breaks.
Keeping their dealers in business is key, or Deere will fall by the wayside.

They call it a "pump" but can't tell what it pumps.

Good luck with the fix. Should work just fine with no leaks.

True enough. The forces of chaos rear their ugly heads from time-to-time.

Once I had a 1/4" stick find the gap between my skid plate and its mount under my
Toyota 4x4. It got in there and broke off the hose fitting to my pneumatic 4WD
actuator on the front axle. Brazed it back on. I did not consider for long buying
a new actuator. It was NOT aluminum, however.
