Harv ... I lived in Manhattan for 20 years. Last April, we bought a fine old house on 6 acres 1 hour outside of town.

Do a net search on "Hudson Valley". Its drowning in colonial history and rurual lore. Deeply imbedded in the history of New England.

I'm much more enlightened about the New York area than I was when I posted that message. Not being a big-city kinda guy, I never had any urge to visit New York, but since I joined this board I've gotten a broader picture of the state, and now I'm hoping I can someday visit parts of it. Hudson Valley looks like one of the areas I'd like to see.

That picture reminds how dumb/ignorant/brainwashed I am about New York.

Where's the tall buildings? The throngs of people? The crush of humanity?

All I know of New York is what shows up on TV, and that's always the big city areas. Muhammad posted a few back road pictures a while back that took my breath away, which was my first realization that there's a lot of New York us westerners never get to see.

A few months back, my wife and I came through the Andirondacks (returning from Montreal). The forests are spooky to say the least.
Boy! Remember that old folk tale "Rip Van Winkle"? This area, combined with rather dreay skies, was very foreboding.
Beautiful though, very rural...
