Barry,

When I ordered my PT-422 I ordered the optional ROPS from PT. I am glad I did, it has been worth every penny. I ordered the 422 because I wanted the Robin engine. I have 660 hours on it. While it is hard starting below 20 degrees it has performed well and I am satisfied.

I also have the ROPS option on my 422. It is nice to have the shade and the FOPS (Fall On Protection System) features.

I also had the ROP's on my 180. loved it, I'm thinking I can make one just about as good and a little more customized for my needs. Was just curious to see if anyone had made their own and how it turned out. ;)

I can't imagine having a PT without a ROPS. What else are you going to hang on to? :p

Don't make it too long. It seems that turning sharply when you are right next to a building can be a wee bit of a problem.

You mean something like this? ;) Even though I think yours was a little better built.

The neighbor who I sold my PT to took it off. Said it made him cluster Phobic. Another reason for the home made rops idea, is so I can mate a soft cab this time easy on easy off, to my specs.

I bought one of these and reto-fitted it to my rops the first year I owned the 180. It worked pretty good, but the back was open to the elements, and the clear plastic would fog up!!
