I have a 1999 JD 4210 HST which for some reason has started to jump out of 4wd. It engages but as soon as you drive away it jumps out but trys to engage again. Any common problems which would cause this? Thanks

:welcome:

Have you checked the linkage?

Have you been able to watch the cylinder to see if it moves to engage and stays there, or that it is what is shifting back and forth to cause the problem?
Here is the theory of the MFWD operation. Checking that the dash light stays lit (or not) when it is shifting back and forth may be a clue to the problem.

Thanks for the info. I had a look and it is engaging and the light is on but when you start moving there is a bang and it jumps, would it be the spline shaft worn and it is jumping under strain. it is really bad on hard lock?

Could be, but don't know.

Do you have, or can you get, a copy of the tech manual to review the parts?

If not, I'd get it to a Deere mechanic before using it in MFWD. Need to determine if there is a problem forward or aft of the drive shaft to the front wheels, IMO.
