I've got a
BX1500 and a land pride 48" box blade. When I first got it I thought, I sure hope this little tractor can lift this hunk of steel. Well it has no problem lifting it. At first I was thinking I would have liked a 42" since it was a little smaller, but I can tell you after using this box blade a bunch I would not trade it for a smaller one. It was a kind of a challenge getting it out of the pick up bed, but I put a couple of 2X6's and just slide it to the ground. Once on the ground I hooked it to the 3 point hitch and I was off.
I would highly recommend building a dolly for it (piece of 3/4" plywood on a 2X4 frame with 4 wheels). It really makes hooking it to the tractor a piece of cake and you can roll it where you want it stored.
My suggestion is to get the 48" box blade. I think with a 42" you would have all kinds of problems trying to grade or getting close to anything. I am certainly no expert, but I think you would always have trouble getting the wheels on the same plane.
A couple of summers ago I put in a drive way using pavers and I need to get real close to the side of the garage. I was able to get with in a couple of inches of the garage. I moved about 10 yards of dirt on that project.
As far as the
bx1500 not having enough hp, I would say it all depends on what type of dirt you have and how much you try to move in one shot. I have had the entire box filled, but was only taking off an inch at a time. You can stop it by digging in too deep, but I am sure you would have the same problem with a 42" box.
