I would want to see maintenance records, if everything is up to snuf then it should be ok. you can check pricing on machinefinder, tractorhouse, and fastline.

It kind of depends on what kind of work the tractor did during those 1200 hours. 1200 hours doing nothing but loader work on a life stock farm would be a lot of hours. 1200 hours pulling a trailer around on a fruit farm would show little wear. You can look at the general condition and see how hard it has been used and ask how it was used by the previous owner.

Look at the eye of the draw bar for excessive wear and see how sloppy the 3 point is. Look at the loader pins and see if they have a lot of slop. If it has been cleaned up with a power washer oil leaks may be hard to see. Have the tires been replaced? New tires or excessive tread wear can tell if it has been run on pavement or had a lot of tire spin while in use.

IMO, given the hours its a little high $$ wise...

Hours are a funny thing... I bought my F935 with 3600 hours on it...came off a golf course so it literally spent the previous 18 years (Bought it in 2006, its a 1988 model year) mowing grass on a daily basis...
Main reason why I got it was it was cheap for what I was getting...ended up dumping 1,200 bucks into it and she's just like new in every respect.

When contemplating a purchase such as this I factor in the "If I need a MAJOR rebuild/repair such as a transmission or engine, will I still have a good deal?"

Another thing I'd think about it can you live without the machine for a few days or so? if 100% uptime is a requirement, then it might not be a wise choice.

Either way, I think 17 is a bit high...

Just for reference, got a 4120 a couple months ago.

2005 4120 w/ mid pto, ehydro, extra svc, 400x loader, engine heater, and a HD frontier rear blade. It had 275 hours and was used for landscaping and plowing a drive on a guys 5 ac yard. It was mint and never had anything on the pto's. Paid $18,700 I thought it was a good price.

A good inspection will reveal if the tractor was abused or not. If it's nice and clean, I wouldn't think twice about the hours. Those motors are built to LAST for thousands of hours.

Now - I think the price is really good - I mean really good! Used 4120's are all but non existent in my neck of the woods. And, when you do see them, they command MUCH more than the prices you guys are throwing around. Must be a factor of the area of the U.S. of A. I live in. Anyway, I just bought a new 4120 because the price was so close to anything used that I had seen. Plus - my paint is all nice and shiny with that new tractor smell....:D

According to used equipment guides wholesale price is $17,350.00 (roughly) so it is listed below wholesale. It being an 07 with warranty helps, factory warranty adds invaluable dollars to a tractor. There are a lot of "deals" out there if you are in the right place at the right time with the economy being what it is, but if that price is from a dealer than it is a good price.

I stand by my original statement..Long story short, there is no way on god's green earth I would pay 17k for a 4120, with 1200 hours and the PR tranny...Period.

Not that it changes my stance on this...but does it have a loader? If so, the x or cx?
