After months of looking and studying over several different tractors I thought I had finally gotten it down to between the JD4115 and the Kubota 2915. I was heavily leaning toward the 2910 because of the increase in hp over the 4115 and the lower price, now I understand the 2910 is being replaced by a new L series, the 3030. The L series to a little to big for the work I need to do. I talking with a friend over the weekend and he suggested I look at the NH29DA. Said it was comparable to the 2910 in hp but he liked it better because of the suppersteer and that the NH loader had the curved arms which gave better visibility and was not as big as the Kubota L series. I know little or nothing about the NH brand except it was once the Ford brand. From what I read all the manufactures make good tractors so I am basing my decision on price and performance. I need a tractor in the size range of the 2910 because I have 10.5 acres of woods (side of a moutain!) that need to cleaning out for fire protection. I have very little mowing to do. I want a FEL and a 5" rotary cutter for cleaning the underbrush and moving lots of rocks. The super steer would be nice since I have a lot of trees to work around. How do all three brands compare in size, performance and price? I woud appreciate any feedback. I don't have any brand loyality just want a good, soild tractor to last the next 20 years or so with a few feature comforts such as hydro. transmission. I have dealers close by for all the brands.

I have a JD 4115 and am very happy with it. Kubota and NH both make good tractors also as I am sure others on this forum can support.

The NH TC29 has a much strong FEL than a B2910, yet still retains a fairly small size for increased manuverability. In all likelyhood the TC29 will be a higher priced machine, but is more capable with ground engaging equipment and FEL work. The B2910 is a great lightweight machine, excellent for mowing and lighter duty work, the engine is smooth as a top, but really not up to the abilities of the TC29. The TC29's loader has a 1000# more breakout force and a 20% greater lift capacity. Go to the photo's section of TBN and dig up my photo gallery. You will see a photo comparision of a NH and a Kubota showing the visibility difference between a TC24 and a B2910, the TC29 is larger than the TC24, but the loader of the TC24 is statistically similar to the B2910. I think you'll see a fairly stark difference between the visibility of the two brands.

As for who is NH, the brand is actually Case/New Holland and they are the largest farm machinery company in the world. Here in the states, they are ranked the #3 most popular in compact tractor sales. Kubota sells far more small tractors in the states than NH but each has its own niches. Kubota commands about a 50% market share.

If you are on the side of a mountain, you might want to consider something w/ a lower center of gravity (PowerTrac I believe). I have a JD 4110 (slightly smaller than a 4115) and I'm still trying to get comfortable on hills of 15%. I just cleared a bunch of underbrush in the woods and I didn't use a cutter at all (besides, w/ a 5 inch cutter, it'll take years /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif - sorry couldn't resist). The FEL was great for clearing most of the larger stuff and a landscape rake was fantastic at removing the rest.

Actually some of my hills are way over 15 degrees. My yard, such as it is, drops 11 ft. in 40 ft. and that is one of the most level spots. I might be just as well off with a 5" cutter! Mainly use rotary cutter for pasture work on other property that I own. Anyone think they might come out with a sloped hood and curved arms FEL. I sure like the visibility on the NH. Climbed on a new 4x20 series at the local JD dealer and it was nice just to big and expensive for my use.

I have a JD 4115 and i do a lot of brush clearing with mine..I have a FEL and what I find with mine is that it is real stable because of the longer wheelbase....

Not that I know anything, but depending where you are in the states, price and a willing JD dealer may be a factor.
I just priced a TC29DA with 14LA FEL and 60" MMM for $19,950.
That was before any haggling. Dealer was the best I have encountered yet. He actually wanted to sell a tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
JD4115 with same set up was almost $1,000 more and the dealer wasn't interested. Take it or leave it attitude.

Just curious how you came up with these three tractors for your use. The JD 4115 is a nice tractor, but much smaller than the NH TC29DA. If you want to compare similar tractors, I think it would be closer to the JD 4310 (or maybe the JD 4210 ? ... I'm going from memory here) and the NH TC29DA.

Yeah, the 4115 is much smaller than the TC29DA and I believe it is larger than the 2910. Nothing agains the Buta or JD but lets compare apples with apples. 4115 and the 2910 I think are close, Class l and the 29 is a larger frame class ll. Hopefully some Buta guys will chime in here. The TC29DA is a deluxe rig. Gots a few bells and whistles on it. If your getting the TC29DA at a price compared to the 4115 I wouldn't think twice, I would be asking where do I sign.

The B2910 is smaller and lighter and weaker than the TC29. It is a great machine, I like mine a lot, but I consider it much closer to the TC24 than the TC29. The FELs on the B2910 and the TC24 are statistically equal, the TC29 has a MUCH stronger loader. The TC24 and the B2910 are within 300 pounds of each other in weight, they use the same front tires, but the B2910 is a bit over a foot longer and a couple inches wider it is also more comfortable with a suspension seat, etc. The B2910 is a deluxe fully loaded machine, but it is a class 1 machine and not a class 2 machine so it is great for mowing and doing light FEL work but it is what it is.

The Kubota that would more closely match up to the TC29 is actually the L3130, but that is larger than the TC29 and has a loader that is stronger. So Kubota does not have a direct Apple-to-Apple tractor, they have a 30hp that is smaller/weaker (B2910) and they have a 30hp that is larger/stronger (L3130).

As for the JD4115, the last time I looked at those I thougth they were 24hp machines? So that machine, while physically about the same size as the B2910, would be much lower in HP than either the Kubota or the NH. I think these 3 tractors are a mismatch.

One of the reasons I bought my 33D over a larger L3130 was for maneuverabilty in my woods. Since the standard Class II New Hollands are very maneuverable you could forgo the supersteer option and move up to a 33 which I believe has more pto hp for your brush hogging needs and save yourself a few dollars in the process.

Looked at the 2910 and 4115, and went with the 4115. HP is 24, but I think the torque has an advantage. On diesels, it's easy to gain a few horsepower if you give up torque -- and for a tractor, torque is what you want.

The brake pedals on the 2910 are over the accelerator (for HST models) so you can't use the left or right brake pedal while moving. Kind of silly.

Been happy with the 4115 since May and have 170 hours on it. Starts faster than any machine I've seen!

You may have already done this, but if you haven't take a look at the Mahindra 3015. It has all of the power that you are looking for and it handles my 6' Brush Hog like it is not even there.

Finally, realizing that prices change geographically, I looked at the TC29DA as my second choice and the price tag came in about $3,500 cheaper for my Mahindra.

Just my opinion but there are other rigs out there besides, blue, green, and orange.
