4115 How to Use a 3PH Log Splitter?

I have a 4520 with the PB connection for my backhoe, and I did exactly as CiderTom suggested: I have my open-centre splitter connected in series with the PB. That is, I feed the output of the splitter back to the rockshaft cylinder instead of to the sump. I've used that splitter all day long, and there is absolutely no heat issue.

The whole setup works very well, in fact, and I can adjust the height of the splitter while I'm working, too.

My splitter control valve has 1/2" plumbing, which may help the heat issue...

Tom.

Ducati996 (nice bike by the way. I used to have a 900ss way back) Your comment about not using your tractor as a mobile engine is very debatable. I have a shed that used to have about 20 small engines. Each year I would have to service all those, many of which were B&S pieces of junk. I have replaced some of those with PTO driven implements and am thrilled with the substitutions. The tractor motor is much easier to maintain and will outlast any of those little gremlins.

You have valid points in which I wont disagree with you - However for me my tractor is the more important piece, and the small engines are expendable and very easy replaceable along with being cost effective. Diesel repair is not cost effective at least to what I have seen. I have B&S log spitters and generators that are over 12 years old and work as good as new. I would use a Honda motor in your case instead of B&S :) It really comes down to needs and choices -sounds like it fits your needs just perfectly.
