I have 134 hrs on my 4110. I took it out of 4wd for the first time in two months today and it started making some transmission noise. It doesn't sound like a gear meshing problem, more like two components rubbing. It is a little louder with more speed. I also found oil leaking from the area of input shaft on the front axle. It may be running down inside the sleeve from the output shaft of the tranny. Oil level looked good though. The oil is spread over the center of the front axle and the back of the right steering cylinder. Attached is a photo of the oil at the axle input shaft. The dealer will be here in three days to pick up the tractor. We are thinking the noise might be becuse the oil was too thick. Although the tractor had been running for 30 minutes, I had only been driving it for 10 - 12 minutes. After another 15 minutes of driving the noise is still there though.

I know that mine will growl some if I dont take it out in low slow gear with the front strait, and it does sound like metal on metal.
The book says to make front wheels strait and drive in low gear.
You might try to slide it in and out while moving, see if the noise stops.

mboulais, The bolt that you can see in the picture with the lock plate on it...... Is there a bolt in the other side still?
This was a problem on some 4110 that the bolts came loose alowing the axel to shift creating a noise. The noise sounded like metal rattling and grinding... What we found was the sleeve that connects the drive shaft to the spline on the front axel was split in half..
The axel coming loose would allow it to roll and would put pressure on the seal and that would run the seal.
This may or may not be your problem, but we had come across this and aleast all you 4110 owners know to keep a eye on the bolts in you front axel.

mboulais, Smell the oil and see if it is axel oil or hydraulic oil..
You will know it if it is axel oil because it has a real bad smell.
Just because it souds like it is in the trans doesn't always mean it is because the noise will travel thru the shaft.
When you get it fixed please let all of us know so we can take measure to prevent it from happing to some one else machine.

I am pretty sure I saw the other bolt while I was under there. I didn't smell the oil, and I have not ruled out hydraulics yet. There is a lot of oil on the hose going to the right end of the steering cylinder. There isn't any at the fitting though. If it is hydraulic the leak must be up the hose further (and out of sight). At first it kind of looked like it was slung from a spinning shaft, but no real evidence in the snow from this morning. I warmed it up again this afternoon and brought it out of the shed. My daughter turned the wheels one way and then other so I could check for visible leaks. I did not hear the noise this afternoon and my daughter couldn't see any oil being slung from the shaft. (she was watching from the side as I drove past her 12' away). If it was as bad as I first feared, she would have seen something. I know this leak is new in the last 30 days and I've only put 5 -6 hrs on it in that time. The leak should be significant. It needs to go to the dealer anyway, I am going to have a skidsteer style bucket QD put on and a new bucket. This will work as an excuse to do that before the snow melts. I will let you guys know what I find out. Attached is another photo of the oil (running off right end of steering cylinder.)

I found the problem today. I am calling the dealer tommorrow AM to let him know. I traced the oil up the hose and found a drip hanging from the oil filter. I started the tractor and sure enough the oil is engine oil. It was spraying out at the oil filter gasket intermittently with enough force to slpatter when it hit the hoses. That's why it looked like it had been slung by a shaft. The oil filter hasn't been touched since the 50 hr oil change in August. I got about 1/6 turn on it by hand and the leak appears to have stopped. I will still have dealer look it over, but I think that was it and I haven't heard the tranny noise again.

At your 50 hr, did you use a factory filter or aftermarket? If it was factory, was it a flat gasket or not?
With all of the talk of the different oil filters and my dealer said that there was a change on the 3510's, I picked up a NAPA just in case. Last weekend I saw a oil drip under the machine. I looked for it and found the same thing you did. I lost less than 1/2 quart of oil. I could not get it to stream at any RPM, but the drip was from between the filter and engine.
This was at about 80 hrs, last time the filter was touched was the 50 hr service.

I think that the 4wd acts similarly to the old truck 4wd. You take it out and you have to move it some to get it to release. Its a very positive lockup to me.

The dealer did my 50 hr oil change. The filter is foriegn, There isn't anything written on it in english. The oil was coming out in a very fine stream, not high pressure but enough to splatter. I didn't loose enough oil to say so before finding the leak. The seal looks to be a flat gasket and it looks like it may overhang the sealing surface slightly. I didn't wipe the oil off so I haven't taken a close look at it.(engine was running and I like my fingers). I think the Tranny oil was just cold and something didn't disengage all th way. The tractor isn't getting much use this winter. We haven't had as much snow as usual, when I do use it it doesn't get run a long time. I probably should have driven it around some more before trying to move it out of 4wd. To be honest, it wasn't hurting anything for it to be in four wheel drive. I wasn't driving at high speeds or on bare pavement, but I just don't like using 4wd unless I need it. (I know it's kind of irrational, but I still try to do everything I can in 2wd). I will probably use a NAPA filter and Castrol GTX DIESEL when I do the 150hr oil change. I plan to do that before plowing this spring, even if I'm a couple meter hrs early.

I was starting my tractor two weeks ago when the temps were "0" I noticed a drip coming from the oil filter, there was some past posts about the Mahindra Oil filter - gasket leaking. I did try to hand Tighten the filter with no luck, did not use a filter wrench. Problem disappeared when the tractor warmed up. not a problem lately since the weather is not that extreme, weather must have had an effect on the gasket.

Hmmm, when I got the drip it was hitting sub zero at night and topping out in the low teens.
I wonder if that is the problem.
Either way, the NAPA is on there now and no leaks. I also haven't got to much use out of it this winter. It hasnt stayed cold enough to freeze the ground with any kind of regularity and there hasn't been much snow.
The thermometer said 70 on the deck yesterday afternoon, a week ago it was 10.
