4100 operator presence system

Hi gang,

I am curious about the 4100 operator presence system. Under what conditions (PTO on/off, brake set/not set, hydro pedal in "nuetral" etc.) does it shut down the tractor? Also when starting the tractor, what steps are required. Well engineered safety features are high on my priority list.

On my 4100 HST model, it works like this:

To get off of machine and leave it running, you have to disengage the PTO, and put Trans lever in neutral. I think you also have to apply the parking brake, but I am not sure about the brake.

If you want to run the rear PTO, you can flip up the seat and pull the seat switch up. Then you can engage the rear PTO. The Mid PTO doesn't share this feature.

Starting, Trans lever must be in neutral, PTO disengaged (and brake on?), but you don't have to be on the seat.

Actually, I went and checked it out. The parking brake doesn't matter - you can get off while running or start it without engaging the brake.

Putting the the HST into neutral, not setting the parking brake, and getting off the tractor, however is not recommended - it will roll if on a hill.

Yep, all ya gotta do is make sure you're in neutral and the PTO is disengaged - parking brake is optional.

Terry & Rick, Thanks for the info. As I test drive more tractors (only rode the kubota so far), I'll pay more attention to the safety features. The challenging thing is convincing my better half that a tractor is a good investment.
